Tips for Good Job Interview Chemistry

You’ve got the right stuff: the skills, education and experience needed to do the job. You should be a no-brainer pick for the organization. All that’s left is a successful face-to-face job interview.Creative_Ambassador

Talk through you work explaining your ideas the thinking behind your projects and don't say.... i designed it like this because it looks good.

^ Tell them you designed it like this because it looks good.

Always dress well, doesn't matter if it's a leisure zone for them on a daily basis. Be positive even if it makes you and them sick. Smile. Be clean and cut your fingernails. First impressions are everything. If they ask you something you don't know, a prefectly legit response is "at this point, I'm not prepared to answer the question". DId I mention smile and be positive?

Thanks to everyone for there advice, one of my main concerns was if i should dress smart or casual. Going to follow the advice on here and go smart and spray my hands with deodorant to stop those sweaty palms.

just dress how you would normally dress, dont wear a tie or anything because you feel you have to. You'll be judged on you portfolio not your clothes.

ps I only had one interview and half way through I told the staff I wouldn't hire myself, if I were to be in their position

Go on a run/get excercise before the interview. It can clear the mind, reduce nervousness and bring out confidence.

Your dress is not as important as your work and you. Overdress is fine, but you wont want to be in suit, and probably not a tie either.
Here's what I've learned. Depending on the job you may get the questions "Do you know Flash?" "Do you know HTML or web sites?" or something vaguely-specific like that. Watch out. Ask for them to clarify when necessary.
For example, I've had hiring people tell me they "do flash" but all they know how to do is open a fla and export. Or they know HTML, but all they know is how to use Dreamweaver and table based layouts without CSS. People lie big time about their skills, granted it may be ok for the hiring party to not know the skills and its up to you, but if they are part of the creative team I'd get suspicious to some people's claims.
Ask about benefits. Is it hourly or salary (most agency jobs have long hours - salary you don't get overtime).
MOST IMPORTANT. Find out more about their creative direction and the future. Watch out for them over fluffing their work and goals. Don't be award hungry or envious. If they're relatively unknown, I might even ask to see more of their work since finding a job is a two way street. You pick them, they pick you.
Don't accept a position with the pretense you'll get a review in 3-6months and then a raise to achieve your desired salary.
- incorrect. dress is everything. don't make the mistake of not wearing a suit and tie.********
- Ultimately it depends on the job. In So Cal you're pretty much laughed at if you come in a suit for anything but executive workadev
- a suit jacket and jeans is the normsilentseven
- incorrect. dress is everything. don't make the mistake of not wearing a suit and tie.

Also.. always treat the interview as a great opportunity for feedback on your portfolio. Use each one as a way to fine tune it for the future.
Remember, people will hiring a less skilled designer if they are an awesome person, over an awesome designer that's an ass.

interesting how many different perspectives there are on what to wear.
if I were you I would dress smart but not really formal.

just make sense of your work...none of that "because it looks cool" crap.
Don't be a stiffy. Being too serious doesnt let them see the real you. Unless of course u are serious, then u need to loosen up.
