Coooool.. I hadn't seen it before either - that Tales of the Unexpected piece is, in the old school sense, sick. I love it.
23Kon - you've a bit of a cheek saying stuff like that - what do you think The Previous Generations did for a living? Sit around in front of computers and music machines, dicking around with code, graphics and loops? If you think you've got it hard, perhaps you should spend some time down a mine or up a chimney...

Well maybe it's just a little 'reminder'...after all it does say 'more soon'... :)

Its a criticism of the the design industry in and out of London.
If you are a london company then you get the opportunity to have cash thrown at you to do mindless stuff with no real purpose. more "art projects" than actual graphic design.
You also stand in good stead for getting these sort of client jobs if you went to StMartins and fall within the Clique of all that hyped shit.If you are a company outwith London then you never get the chance to do that kind of thing. Clients want work that will give them physical returns.
I'd LOOOVE someone to come along and say "heres £10,000, i want you to make me something that spins and looks mad and shit - it doesnt need to have a purpose".
*kisses*
- Poor excuse, Universal Everything aren't based in London.void
- I certainly do not know of any scottish companies that get this kind of R&D/pissabout work23kon
- closest would be Locofoco in glasgow as they take a more arty approach to things23kon
- but they dont get anything as cool23kon
- Third Eye or Marque as they are now called do... I'm not sure location has anything to do with it...void
- ok, theres very FEW outside london. you cannot deny there IS a london clique though!23kon
- also in teh artworld too. theres a LOT better artists in the UK than Tracy Emin, Damien Hirst and Banksy!23kon
- for london substitute NY, Paris, any big city. (third eye and marque don't do stuff like HiRes btw)kelpie
- Move if it bothers you that muchmodern

So it's not really a studio, more a personal project?
- Makes sense as to why it leans towards the artistic then...pretty self-explanatorybabaganush
- well he's left hi-res now, so i guess it is now.Leigh

kon sounds far more bitter and resentful than I'd expect for a trendy shoreditch wannabe
- 23kon0
Whatwhat?!
Theres no way that anyone can deny that there IS a London clique that spawns from StMartins. Its about being in that clique and who you know etc.
There was some lass on the news last week, an artist from outwith london who was outside the auctionhouse where all Damien Hirsts stuff was being auctioned. She was complaining about EXACTLY what i'm on about - and thats that its LONDON artists/designers that get all the hype in the UK when theres so much more talent outwith london. Just because you go to StMartins it doesnt make you a better designer - it just makes you more socially connected within the "clique".
And as for trendy shoreditch wannabe - nah ive never really wanted to go live in a city that turns your bogeys black.
besides what good would it do me - id never be a "rawkstar designer" in london cos i never went to St.Martins.
maybe a lifedrawing evening class might sort me out- I went to St Martins, but I'm not part of any clique, and I work for a company that delivers results and wins design effectiveness awardsBaskerviIle
- ... effectiveness awards for improving businesses through designBaskerviIle
- plimsoles, baskerville?kelpie

I see your point but the capital will always be the hub for these things. Shane Meadows is based in the midlands but still needs the hub of London to make his films. That's why it draws creative and financial people to it. If you choose not to that's cool (and of course there a thousands of super-talented people who make that lifestyle choice and fair play to them) but it won't change it's just the status Quo (their 3 chord structures were pretty creative...)
- kelpie0
Oh to be trendy in Shoreditch.
Up here I'm routinely laughed at and pelted with coins just for wearing plimsoles and rocking a tint feathered part-hawk back combed cross cut, scoundrels.
- 23kon0
for the record - ive never been to shoreditch
- you've got a postcard of it on your bedroom wall though, haven't you? admit itkelpie
