studderine:
Starbucks treats it's employees great. I don't know about other parts of the country, but my girl works there and has nothing but great things to say about the company. Her benefits package is good and other perks are great too. She is paid overtime when they work extra hours, she enjoys all of the people she works with, and everyone comes from different walks of life.
Starbucks invests a lot of money back into the community and is very philanthropic in nature. They actually pay above market prices for their coffee and are getting more and more involved in Fair Trade Coffee.
Also, when it comes to expansion, theirs happened fast, but Dunkin' Donuts has 4,000 more locations in the U.S. and no commitment to Fair Trade or fair wages. But they too do have some philanthropy initiatives.
To compare Starbucks to Wal-Mart is unfair and needs to be researched first.

mikotondria3, i know exactly how you feel.
i remember the first time i went into a walmart (before i knew all the shit they do) i couldn't believe how cheap some of their stuff was. i thought i'm gonna shop here forever! and then the big info bomb dropped and have only been back maybe twice. and both against my will and dragged there by my mom who still doesn't get it.
unfortunately they are very popular with the latino families who are struggling.i recomend the movie, for those that haven't seen it ::
