  Which lens would you recommend?

  They will be primarily be shooting active twins (3 years old).

  • make sure you get a fx lens, if you mount a dx lens on your d700 it will be shooting at 5.1mpPseuro

  or for 1/4 the price you could get a full frame Sigma 24-70 f2.8.
  There's probably a quality difference between them, but I bet it's marginal.
