so. what do you think?

I'm sur eboth are fantastic. I would think the 5D might need to use more aggressive noise suppression because of the increased pixel count. Last week I worked with a photographer who used a d700 and the results were stellar

I imagine it will smother the D700. Are there are any sample images available?

advantages?- advantage: bigger image
disadvantage: increased noisehallelujah - good point, would like to see head to head comparison********
- agreed. pixel density really plays a part in signal to noise ratio.jaylarson

for the price the 5d beats the d3, much less the d700.

looks like that 5D is a honkin' piece of equip. what are you going to be using it for? fashion? landscape? large crowds of naked people in public spaces?
- naked people in private place, in low light********
- you need to answer this question MrDinky, or else i won't be able to help you spend the 5k in your pocket...robotron3k
- pinhole camera then, you want to spend as much time with your subject as possible...robotron3k

go to a store with two cards. take pictures with both cameras. go home and view the images on your machine. take this along with how the camera feels in your hand, available lenses, & what you want to shoot into account and choose the body that fits what you want. they're both great cameras, and i'm sure you'll be happy with whichever you choose.

pull the plug, you should know whether a giant fucking picture is important to you

takes hd vid too? wow.

For me a dslr is a dslr and shouldnt take vids....you can do that with a HD camcorder for a fraction of the 5D MKII....I much prefer the 5D (the original)....21mpixels? who for - what for? Unless you print mega big...its pointless....12meg do the job even on A0 print...so....up to you....but thats that

21mp is a 30" canvas at 200dpi.
I sometimes print 40" canvases (albeit from 2-3 stitched shots mostly) so its a worthwhile consideration for me.
Will I be able to sell the video from this cam as a product - probably not.
Will I be able to capture my baby girl growing up in 1080p while still being able to shoot full res photos while the video is rolling, on a camera that pays for itself in work - absofrickenlutely!
