just saw some photos from a traditional SLR camera and they had a lovely quality that digital, for all its pixels, just doesn't have. is anybody here still using film? i know a lot of people still swear by it.

Digital for Clients, Film for personal work.

yep, still can't beat film imo.

i would use film exclusively if i could afford it, but the time and money it takes to make a single solid print is just nothing i have right now.
once i win the lottery though i'll go back to shooting exclusively with film, if for no other reason than technology is preposterous; used to be you only needed one great camera in a few different formats and you were set. this updating your camera to stay current like computers ever few years is a load of horseshit.
- I totally agree. used to be that a camera would last your entire careerLo_Fi

I shot both ways. Love the results I obtain with my old pentaxs, and medium-format yashica.

I find that with the digital cameras, what you're missing are the happy mistakes from strange/rare/unique analog cameras. I prefer to use a traditional camera for final shots, but cost for film/development is a considerable factor in using digital for quick/archival shots.

Kodak put out a 35mm Hi-Def series 100-400 speed that is fantastic.

i use film only, mind you I don't need to make money taking pictures....
there is little chance of my switching in the forseeable future

are there any particular brands of film you like?

I figured that good scanners can be as big as necessary, while camera have to be portable :)

Film (Kodak Portra) and a good scanner.
6x6 format is not cheap but you get the best quality with a good camera.

kodak archival film or fuji

- Agreed. Nearly impossible to have this consistent clarity and tone with digital.duckofrubber
- But nearly impossible to obtain a good film scan, unless you want to pay a lot...taxiguerrilla
- I don't pay much, I get all my negs scanned beautifully and only take out my wallet when I need a bigger scanbolus

Moth, you honestly think that image is unobtainable on digital?
... You really need to get out of the dark room.
