Are we evolving, or moving backwards? I've heard theories that species that live in safe, domestic environments tend to actually get stupider over time.

We're moving into our next (and probably final) stage of evolution: integration with technology.

- Awww yes. Good call********
- No, is it worth seeing?ukit
- stop spreading news of bad movies. this movie stank.pr2
- While this movie does polarize on the issue of comedic worth, I haven't gone a week of my life without understanding it's truer undertones.waterhouse

Good question!
I think we're getting lazier and dumber because computer technology is becoming more advanced.
I also firmly believe some bad shit's going to go down in the next 10 years... equivalent to the ice age, but it'll be something to do with a technology fuck up which will create a new evolution.

"Are we evolving, or moving backwards?"
Just a question: why is evolution necessarily related to "moving forward"?
- ukit0
Well of course it isn't, I guess that's what I was saying. We could well be evolving into idiots.

Physically we are degenerating and are more prone to inherited diseases. 100 years ago one fourth of have would have died in infancy, but with todays medicine we are able to survive and pass all genetic ailments to the next generation -- even if it means you have to be on medication throughout your life.
There is on the other hand social and sexual selection esp. in places of high population density where biology turns into sociobiology. The main problem today is that some people choose not to have children. Important rules of selection of parental ability: selfish people, people with weak parental instinct, homosexuals and other deviants, people who think log cabins are a more reasonable investment tahn a family -- don't get to have kids of their own, and like good and well-meaning degenerates, die out without a trace
The meaning of life is to procreate, to have children -- from the biological aspect of life. All other aspects of life are illusion and do not exist
- thats some deep shit right thereimnotadesigner
- you started with a good reasoning, but then it ends up in morals and adjectives. That makes no sense.********
- On the other hand, your premises are false. Humans are not degenerating. Degeneration does not exist.********
- In fact humans are the most successful species on earth, along with dogs.********

That's exactly the question, ukit. Most of what we deem possible, or not, depends on the possibilities and limits of semantic capabilities inscribed in our brain. But what if we had no language to start with?
- ukit0
Maybe someday we will just be imprisoned inside giant machines that rule the Earth.
- Llyod0
dude the meaning of life is to have have fun and help people

Bad ideas have bad consequences, so to qoute Charles Darwin....perhaps a race war will take place (he thought it would be beneficial). What a racist!
"At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilized state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the Negro or Australian and the gorilla."
- racist against Australians. What a dick!flashbender
- political correctness is a human invention. Nature has its own laws, raw, brutal, unfair, complex and beautiful********

Getting stupider and weaker the more we cater for stupidity and weakness
