Same color profile prob

save it out as sRGB, as I understand it (however limited my understanding is), most of the browsers display using sRGB. When I save out of photoshop using "Save for web and devices" the preview that photoshop serves up in the Save for web dialogue box is always washed out compared to what I was working on. However when you open the file in preview / safari / photoshop after saving for web the colours display correctly.
The profile your imac has for its display is there to make it display the colours as true as possible for that particular screen i.e. Red displays red rather than pink or orange. I custom profile the screens on my work machine once a month but my files stay in sRGB. Never use your screen profile as a document profile as that screen profile is exclusively for your LCD panel and can look terrible on another screen.
Hope that helps

so leave systems prefs on "imac" and change working to sRGB is PS?
Nice feedback, cheers.

yeah, that's the one. sRGB working/document space inside your design app's is a 'safe' constant that is a accepted globally. Pretty much everything else is against you i.e. different gamma between pc and mac, old browsers not respecting colour spaces, some guy that has set his brightness and contrast to suit counter strike for maximum kills etc...
sRGB in PS will be path of least resistance for you (in my opinion :D)

I just purchased a new iMac last week, after transfering my entire drive from an older PowerBook Adobes CS3 was fucked! I had to call Adobe three time to get get the software validated and working properly, pain in the ass to say the least! I could not get my color profiles working properly at all, I had to reconfigure them from scratch, fuck Adobe!
Good Luck

Time for another visit to www.dearadobe.com

Cool, now you have a constant (and consistent) working space. So if you end up buying a calibration device to correct the inevitable changes that a screen goes through as it ages, your work will not be effected, only how true your screen displays colours will be effected.

Erm.
I maybe missing something here but does this colour shift happen when only saving for web?Have you tried: In the "save for web" dialogue window there is an arrow. Click it and it offers you a load of profiles. Just click "same as working space"/"document profile" (guessing but something similar)
- Have been trying this also and getting varied results but happy with the outcome to some extent.

This might be a bit too obvious, but, JPG compression will always lighten an image a bit, it's directly related to how the compression is achieved. Can we see an example?
