Gooodmorning everyone, I could use a little input.
I am a graphic designer interviewing for a design position at an advertising agency. I have dropped off my portfolio and they asked me to bring in additional printed samples to have a gander. What would you reccommend bringing in? And should I mount it?

I'd assume they'll want to examine the pieces from all angles, so probably it would be better not to mount them

when everybody is sitting stand up, unzip your pants and lay your sausage on the table. that should let them know where you stand.

flanels, you're not really asking very delving questions of us. should you mount it? that isn't going to make or break you.
i'll kind of chatter to myself about ad agencies and see if anything sticks. from the sampling of art directors i have worked with i have noticed that they generally don't know much about type and are usually too hyper to take the time to mend any loose holes in the layout.
where a designer seems to fit in is with choosing colors, up to date type, creating grid systems, suggesting more interesting printing options, help choose photo styles, give input on a more effective layout (AOF) ..
unless you're like nopattern and have some pre-defined magical style that you'd like to contribute to a brand.

actually, after looking at your portfolio, it looks like you use hiring a designer as well.
hey. best of luck. i'll be shutting up now.
- Flanels050
yea uhh, thats under construction currently...derka. If you would like to see work it's the new pFol link.

Eye contact, your designs being "loose," or at least able to detach from your main book so that they can be passed around if there is more than one interviewer. (I find that very helpful.) My friends get really nervous for some reason. Just act natural, know what you're presenting to them... For me it works to treat it like I'm shooting the shit with a designer friend or colleague. (Remember, they were all once students too and had to go through the same thing.) Once, my interview went really well and I walked out with a limited edition pair of Adidas that weren't even close to being released to the public, that was cool.
