The Generals try to stop an Iran War
It has leaked that US chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Gen. Martin Dempsey warned the Israelis that if they launched a strike on Iran that spiralled into a war, they would be on their own.
Gareth Porter’s report, based on conversations with former officers in the administration of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who claim knowledge of Dempsey’s emphases, comes on the heels of controversial assertions by US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta that Israel may strike Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities this spring or summer.

white supremacists are drawn to Ron Paul because of his position on the confederacy...and, like tea party neanderthals today, they are too stupid to understand nuance. I am not a Ron Paul supporter at all but also think it's a bit disingenuous to paint him as a racist.

I think like all politicians Ron Paul tells people what they want to hear to an extent.
Back in the 80s and 90s he was associated with people like Pat Buchanan were libertarian but also pandered to racist and anti-Semitic elements out there.
Ron Paul probably wasn't personally racist but it's pretty clear if you look at his newsletters and other stuff from back then that he was trying to appeal to them. And coincidentally the anti-Federal government stance also appeals to people who are thought civil rights legislation was wrong and they should be free to discriminate.
Then after 9/11 he dropped all that stuff and emphasized his anti-war and pro civil liberties stances more and younger people started following him and viewed it in a completely different light. But he still has all these racist and white supremacist followers from back then.

Obama's 'improving' economy is bald-faced baloney
BOGUS!
http://www.washingtontimes.com/n…The White House hyped the news Friday that January payrolls had risen by 243,000. The hitch is the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also dropped 1.2 million from the calculated workforce. Somehow this net loss of a million workers in a single month was transformed into an improvement in the unemployment rate. As the old saying goes, figures don’t lie, but liars can figure.
“Job growth was widespread,” the BLS reported, but most Americans sense that something isn’t quite right with the numbers. The most important change was the deep decline in the workforce. While the overall population jumped an 1.6 million in January, the workforce declined a record-setting 1.2 million. This figure represents those who out of sheer frustration or for other reasons have dropped out of what the government defines as the active labor pool. They are worse than simply unemployed; they are both jobless and hopeless.
The good news for Obama administration statisticians is that these unfortunates don’t factor into the official unemployment rate, which only counts those thought to be looking for work. So while five people drop out of the system in despair for every new job created, the official unemployment rate declines and the White House enjoys a good news day.
- always been that way, with all presidents, but yeah people fall out of the system, cannot be accounted for after a period.********
- You realize that people who start their own businesses are also dropped of the active workforce
locustsloth - surely, the numbers are skewed, I just want to see the real numbers, that is all.********
- "Real numbers"? Were they real in previous presidencies?DrBombay

Interesting viewpoints, especially from usually "Liberal" journalists.
Barone:Obama's isolation leads to skewed decisions
http://campaign2012.washingtonex…It's unusual when a reporter sympathetic to a politician writes a story that makes his subject look bad. But Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker has now done this twice.
The first time was in an article last April on Obama's foreign policy in which he quoted a "top aide" (national security adviser Tom Donilon? It sounds like him) saying that the president was "leading from behind" on Libya. Not what most Americans expect their presidents to do.
Now, in an article based on leaked White House memos marked up by Obama, Lizza has done it again.
Contrarian liberal blogger Mickey Kaus sums it up: "The president's decision-making method--at least as described in this piece--seems to consist of mainly checking boxes on memos his aides have written for him."
A $60 billion cut in the stimulus package? "OK." Use the reconciliation process to pass the health care bill? A check mark in the box labeled "yes."
Include medical malpractice reform in the health care bill? The man who as an Illinois legislator often voted "present" writes, "We should explore it."
According to Lizza, Obama prefers getting information and making decisions by staying up late and reading memos rather than meeting with people -- a temperament that's a liability because face time with the president is one of his major sources of political capital.
