OK, I'll bite on your little muslim punching story there.
A) From the intent and viewpoint this is obviously a story designed to create an emotional response, not inform anyone of anything.
B) If the situation as described actually happened then indeed a misservice of justice has been done.
C) However, let's pull out two key ideas that form the basis of the story:
"I informed the lady I was in a public square in a democracy. I can actually take pictures of whomever I please."
Then the gentleman was struck by the lady in question.
So, his right to take a photo in public as infringed.
"The fact we have Islamists living amongst us who despise western values isn’t news."
So, we should be outraged that we have persons in our society that can violate the standards of our society and thus we should Do Something About This.
Regardless of if the person was Islamic or whatever then we have a clear right - the ability to record things in a public space - being infringed - by physical assault and property destruction.
Awesome. In fact I think we can all agree on those principles.
Now I would like to direct poppfodders to any number of places in say Manhattan or Washington DC - usually corporate building facades - where I gaurantee he will be harassed by Security up to and including the damaging of his camera to photograpgh corporate property from a public sidewalk. I would also like him to photograpgh police officers. I'd like to know what the response would be?
My point - the ability to photogragh or otherwise record things in public is already infringed daily by corporate and governmental authorities, but I don't quite see the outrage form the Right about this. But a musli woman in a habib? Suddenly all is not right in our fair democracy.
The principle being violated is the same, yet only one gets written about and in emotionally inflammatory language.
Also, is the isolated incident of a woman striking a man in the story as depicted logically lead to the idea that the Canadian democracy is being overwhelmed by Islamic influence? Anecdotes are not data.
