And fiscal conservatives helped send George W. Bush to the White House in '04. Not playing a "Well, Bush did..." card (which got old a year or so ago) to counter the critique of a Democratic president, but rather to follow up on the Gallup post above with two thoughts:
A. Please don't use party ID and Presidential job approval ratings to demonstrate a point. If a rock won the GOP nom and some paper won the Dem nom, Conservatives would poll high for Rock, Liberals would poll high for Paper, and burned out Nader supporters would try to draft Scissors...all based on "principle." If anything, it's interesting how the "Moderates" who've reportedly decided the last few elections continue to hover near 50 despite the successes and stumbles of the Obama administration, but that being said...
B. Please don't use a Gallup poll more than six months beyond Election Day to take the temperature of a President's job approval. Anything Gallup puts out now is barely above an infographic appearing below the fold in the Life section of USA Today.
