Actually, this press release is kind of the holy grail of Tea Party thinking http://1.usa.gov/ntdYIt Read the whole thing.
See, the guy voted against raising funds to the Post Office. Then the Post Office is closing the branch in his district because it's not bringing in enough revenue and now he's like "Woah! You can't cut this shit my district needs! Take it from some other schmuck!"
Uh-huh. Austerity + magical thinking = stupid policy. Or The Tea Party. Or popfodders.

This entire deficit issue is the logical consequences of decisions made years ago, which included:
1) to invade Iraq;
2) to make tax cuts for the rich in order to bail them out from the dotcom crash;
3) to drop interest rates through the floor;
4) to allow a telecom oligopoly to form;
5) to condone Chinese mercantilist policies which subsidized Chinese exports with a low Yuan;
6) to tolerate the Yen carry trade, and
7) to refuse to regulate the creation of money in the form of securitization and exotic derivatives.These are all Republican policies. When an alarm was raised about the potential deficit such far ranging and economically foolhardy policies might cause, Cheney got rolled out as the "serious one", pontificated that "deficits don't matter" and everyone on the TV news just nodded sagely and then STFU and suggested that teh hippies should pipe doen while the serious politicians ran the country.
As soon as teh black man got into office, suddenly deficits mattered, in fact they are so fucking important that crashing the last 50+ year run of American economic global hegemony is worth it to this Tea Party Death Cult. They'll roll out the whol e"Obama Stimulus" bullshit line and something something about poor people driving cadillacs, but the truth of the matter is the seven points above are essentially what fucked the deficit, which they all were in favor of.
Ah fuck it, it's all over but the shouting. If anyone needs me I'll be in the outhouse trying to figure an exit strategy out of this looney bin of a country to some quiet corner of the planet to raise my family.
- Its the TEA Parties fault? They don't even hold a majority. It really shows how clueless you are********

Viking you're very typical of the Tea Party ignorance that is out there.
Sure, the government needs to cut spending - everyone agrees on that. But why is it in any way a good idea to hold the economy hostage over the debt ceiling deadline? Like the article above says, the two things are not dependent on each other. Even the Paul Ryan plan that the Tea Party voted for months ago REQUIRED raising the debt ceiling a bunch of times even while it cut spending.
So it's idiotic to stand in the way of raising it. If the U.S. credit rating gets downgraded or we default on our debt, it's going to be a massive cost to everyone and the economy could go to third world status more or less permanently.
It's very telling that a month ago people on the right were actually arguing that failing to raise the debt ceiling would have zero consequences. Funny how you don't hear that argument anymore.
- You don't even know what you're saying. Hold the economy hostage? Are those your thoughts?********
- The democrats and obama have not proposed a budget in 2 half years.********
- The senate is supposed to come up with the budget. They decided they didn't need one.********
- You don't even understand inflation do you? The goal is to bring America to a 3rd world country no matter what side of the aisle your on.********
- aisle your on********
- Obama is purposely collapsing the economy with the help of both parties.********
- Come on guy, you target the TEA Party instead of Wall Street and the bankers********
- the US Credit rating will be downgraded NO MATTER WHAT.********
- They had 2 years to fix the problem and the SENATE waited until the last minute.********
- These back and forth battles are pathetic. Everyones mind is made up. live and let live. Peace********

Funny that you mention people here not critically thinking about the articles and just believing what they're told, Viking.
This from the guy who incessantly posts Glenn Beck clips and then, when presented with a reasoned and researched response to his own rhetoric, completely ignores it (and i posted reminders, so saying 'it got lost' is BS)Here's the response to the Fast and Furious stuff you posted.. again

^ You should know by now that Viking King Eleven doesn't stick around to answer questions. He just drops by long enough to label people he doesn't agree with "brainwashed" and then goes back to watching Fox News.

Republicans are playing a "heads I win, Tail You Lose" game....
They force a HUGE federal Spending cut.... during a recession, so that:
1. if Keynes is right, the economy gets stuck, Obama gets blamed, Republicans win the next election
2. If Keynes is wrong, the Republicans claim credit, scream about inevitable deficit issues and try to impeach Obama, thus winning the next election
Much of this depends on MASS HYPNOSIS where we for some reason think that long-term debt issues are more important than short-term economy stuck in a ditch, after having been steered into the ditch by BUSH.....
This is like screaming about a less-than-full gas tank when your car won't start anyway....

"For the deal itself, given the available information, is a disaster, and not just for President Obama and his party. It will damage an already depressed economy; it will probably make America’s long-run deficit problem worse, not better; and most important, by demonstrating that raw extortion works and carries no political cost, it will take America a long way down the road to banana-republic status.
