Yes we should just nuke 'em all. Then the world would be eradicated of all evil.

"Only in America would some layman think he knew more about a topic than a Nobel laureate."

Only a brainwashed liberal hippy would say something so stupid and blindly follow something he / she doesn't understand as he / she can't even wrap their head around the absurdity of the concept to begin with - but THEN he /she see's the word 'nobel' next to the person's name... and BAM... indoctrinated into silliness...

... why do I immediately think of that dipshit Al Gore as I type this?

    ----

One thing I do know is for certain - those who want Gov. money are probably going to come up w/as many dumb 'eco' ideas as they can... then spend away your'z and my'z cash (our kid's actually)... on silliness.

    Please stop being silly.

    • So the fact that he is a world reknowned physicist means nothing?DrBombay
    • maybe they should have hired you for the position...DrBombay
    • Oh wait, you don't give a shit about the environment.DrBombay
    • how 'bout they hire you... I mean... you're just as qualified to talk about this shit as I am... right? ;)PonyBoy
    • You're dumber, obviously.DrBombay
    • Seriously, can conservatives feel any more inadequate that they have to make fun of Nobel laureates?DrBombay

'You don't give a shit about the environment...'

    from one of Dobby's notes...

... Dobs - that all you got?... tell me I don't care because I don't agree w/your assessment that 'only in america' do layman think they know more than some scientist?

you have a lot of fucking nerve sometimes, ricky...
... you have ZERO education yourself on this... and you're failing to look at the bottom-line reasoning... MONEY...

... some fucker wants money and they wrap the 'environment' into their handout request... money that will disappear into oblivion.

Go ahead - yammer on about Bush and Iraq and everything else you keep getting hung up on... make fun of religion... call republicans all sorts of names etc etc... you slide into the cliche of 'lib' perfectly these days.

Try thinking for yourself a little... a little common sense goes a long way.

    • Did he ask for money? I must have missed that.DrBombay
    • I thoguht he was at a Nobel Laureate Symposium... Must have misread that...DrBombay
    • GFYDrBombay
    • oh... I guess you can't take the idea and then figure THE COST of it... that what you're saying?PonyBoy
    • You didnt read the fucking article, obviously.DrBombay
    • Dobs... this 'article' and 'idea' has been talked about for the last 24 hours... from multiple angles - and I'm sharing them.PonyBoy
    • Yammer about Bush and Iraq? Dude fucking try harder. You call me a cliche, look in the mirror.DrBombay

Let's talk about the profound impacts the idea of Global Warming will have and is already starting to have on all of us. It better be an F'ing proven fact if the government is going to start dictating the way we all live our lives. It better be proven fact if small businesses all the way up to large corporations are going to be profoundly effected. I am not going to reiterate the same old things that come up every time this issue arises, but understand this issue is not "settled" as many of you seem to believe. I am personally not in favor of erroring on the side of caution when the stakes are this high. There are plenty of ways we can ease into this transition of being more efficient and "green" without being Chicken Little and making huge decisions base on some knee jerk reaction because Joe Scientist claims the world is going to end if we don't.

Please stop making the assumption that because "conservatives" or whatever label you give the opposition are skeptical about human effects on climate change that this equates to not caring about the environment...it's simply not true.

  • DrBombay0

Conservatives have absolutely no ideas on protecting the environment at all, name ONE!

    • Still waiting...DrBombay
    • I do. I know I recycle and all my neighbors who had Obama placards in their lawns don't. It's not so cut and dry..zenmasterfoo

    Conservatives launch green initiative

    Published: 08/26/2008

The Conservative movement launched a greening initiative in North America and Israel.

A project of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs, the initiative kicks off with a solar Ner Tamid, or eternal light, for synagogues, and soy-based Shabbat eco-candles for home use. The candles have lead-free wicks and
    recyclable tins.

A third prong is encouraging community support for carbon offset programs in North America and Israel. The programs involve planting trees, cleaning rivers and performing other environmentally sustainable actions.

The fourth component is using biodegradable building and food service supplies. A joint purchasing agreement is in place to help Conservative institutions buy such products in bulk instead of non-reusable plates, cups
    and utensils.

"Being green is a Jewish imperative," said Rabbi Charles Simon, the executive director of the men's club federation. "Our goal is to reduce synagogue, and congregant and community energy usage, and promote the use of sustainable energy."

I have one simple plan for the 'environment'...

... prove to me that your theory is sound... then we can discuss measures to protect... er MONEY to spend...

See dobs... you're hung up on the thought that conservatives have no ideas on what to do about the environment...

... thing is - conservatives don't 'buy all the science' being used here - therefor... you're pretty fucking dumb to keep asking for solutions when in fact 'we' don't see the 'problem' as you do...

... the solution I have is that collectively... scientists from both sides of the issue sit their asses down and hash out their differing views to really understand if the problem is as dire as you make it out to be.

    • This was my though exactly. The reason the initiatives are seemingly sparse stems from the differences on the issue altogether.designbot
    • altogether.designbot
    • exxon pays scientists to dispute it, you have admitted this.DrBombay
  • DrBombay0

So do nothing then, I see. You have Oil Companies paying scientists to differ in viewpoints. Have fun getting a consensus.

    • I think you said the same 'so do nothing then?' when TARP was being voted on. What makes you think doing 'something' istommyo
    • always what's warranted?tommyo
    • Stop muddying up the argument.DrBombay
    • that's not always true. there are a great number of important scientists on the opposite end of this.zenmasterfoo
  • PonyBoy0

yep... that's exactly what I said... 'do nothing'.

    haha... you rock, dobby. ;)

  • ukit0

So if completely unregulated capitalism results in the planet getting fucked up beyond all recognition, is it still worth it?

Is economic freedoms more important than life itself?

    • what are you going on about?!
      :D
now we're on to hating capitalism?
      PonyBoy
    • Capitalism raises air temperatures duh! Read the NYT for gods sake Ponytommyo
  • designbot0

"planet getting fucked up beyond all recognition"

come on man, this is sensational. It's not as black and white as...either we take these hard core initiatives...or we are doomed. Sounds like you are buying into the propaganda, no offense.

Remember Gore was saying this in the 90's...giving us "10 years" to clean up our act or face dire consequences....the earth hasn't ended yet.

  • tommyo0

I guess when the whole planet thawed from being a huge chunk of ice, it was the humans fault too. Damn humans got rid of all the ice with their careless ways!!

Don't you all find it a tad self-important to think that we're the cause of all of it? Look, the earth is an organic thing, being effected by lord knows how many variables. The only FACT is that we don't understand Earths cycles. Wasn't it in the 70's or 80's they were talking about us heading back into an ice age? Now we're melting all the ice and we're going to be a big ball of hot dirt?? I think we do need to live better, use less, keep this place cleaner. But the rigamaroll going on now with everything being green and save the earth is a tad preposterous. Yes, we should move in that direction, if anything as an evolution of our society... but do we need to sprint to that point? Causing untold costs on business and citizens for a problem we don't understand?? How would you feel if we had instituted all sorts of 'paint your roof' black to keep the earth warmer in the 70's or 80's? Knee jerk reactions are what we're looking at right now, some of you are just too entranced to realize that.

  • DrBombay0

You were 5 in the seventies. That global cooling thing is a farce.

    • So if Global Cooling was a farce, why not Global Warming?designbot
    • But this is... oh fuck it you're an idiot, I don't even want to waste the time.tommyo
    • exactly my point DBot, but again. Some are just too entranced to realize this.tommyo
    • Guaranteed there wasnt as much news about global cooling.DrBombay
  • designbot0

*waits for Pelosi's carbon footprint to start circulating the net.

  • ukit0

Yeah, I'm the one buying into the propaganda

NEWS FLASH: 97% of climate scientists agree global warming is real

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/am…

So do we have to wait until every last crackpot on the internet is convinced?

I think it's funny that you say I am biased. I am just in agreement with the fucking science.

You guys are the ones being biased by your inclination towards free market, government is always the problem philosophy. You take the philosophy and use it to determine the facts you listen to.

    • Whatever the problem is, only lowering taxes can fix it.TheBlueOne
    • TBO shutting his hot vaporous mouth would help too I think.tommyo
    • hahaahahahah :Ptommyo
  • PonyBoy0

burping goats and farting cows, folks

  • ukit0

  • tommyo0

    Ukit,

Global Warming is true. I'm with you. Everyone is with you on this point. The argument is, what is causing it to warm?

    A. Is it us?
    B. Is it Earth's cycles?

You pick A, I pick C, which is 'no one fucking knows.' To me, in my opinion, we NEED to clean up our ways in case it is indeed A. But right now, no one fucking knows for sure. So this knee jerk reaction and green this and green that makes me want to throw a brick through a window simply because it is 100% reactionary.
