is our standard of living just based on how much we owe
""It is essential for every American to understand that the battle for economic recovery must be fought on two fronts. We have to both jumpstart job creation and private investment, and we must get credit flowing again to businesses and families.""

seems like the end result is just to have us in more debt

"Police arrested a man near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday after he drove up to one of the building's barricades with a rifle in his vehicle and told officers that he had a delivery for President Obama, a Senate spokesman said."

When Oliver Stone gets around to making the movie about the Crash of '09 or whatever he calls it, he absolutely needs Joe Pesci to play this guy:

I can't wait to hear more about how bad PETA and other "whacko green groups" are from our media and why they need to be watched for their "threat to America!" Meanwhile rightwing fascists build atomic bombs in their basements. Nice. No one could of seen that coming. No one at all. Nope.

For the record, Obama's first press-conference was really good.

Andy Card, the former chief of staff to President George W. Bush, said Thursday that the public was plagued by misconceptions about the former president, particularly in regards to his intelligence and openness to information.
“First off, President Bush does know how to read. He is very well-read,” Card said.

can anyone explain why republicans solution to everything is more tax cuts ??
didnt bush implement extensive tax cuts for the last 8 years ?? and where's the economy now ?
- BattleAxe0
Those sons of bitches
"that the cap on executive pay has been removed from the stimulus bill."
'They make a big display of yelling at the CEOs and then the very next day they quietly remove any cap on their compensation. "

The Republicans political strategy can be summed up like this:
a) Tax Cuts.
b) Fuck You.That's literally their policies. Economy booming? Tax cuts! Economy is in trouble? Tax Cuts. Maybe we shouldn't go to war on flimsy rational? Fuck you. What about some money for the school systems, or roads or public sector workers? Fuck you.
Seriously, one of those two answers will suffice in any analysis of any Republican strategy for the last 20 years.
Of course the Democrats strategy for the last twenty years:
a) Hey, we're really not liberal. Stop calling us that. You hurt our feelings.
b) Please fuck us up the ass. Again. Again. Again.

In black and white:
"Boehner reminded Republicans that they are no longer in the business of legislating and should focus almost solely on communicating their message with voters.
"We are in the communications business,” Boehner told the crowd during his opening remarks. “We can build a new Republican majority one issue at a time."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico…
The Republicans don't give one goddamn whit about actually, you know, governing. They love to put on a fine show about how to "make government smaller" but what they really mean is how to play whatever political games they can so they can stay or get into a position of power that allows them to funnel all that government cash into their buddies' pockets. That's all they ever do.

^^ And Democrats are any different? // Oh I forgot all the important work Congress did the last two years. Our government is broken folks. Both sides. Fucked. This 'stimulus' package is yet another power grab. It's bullshit. Obama can't even find people to staff the cabinet that happen to pay their own fucking taxes. Our Treasury Secretary can't pay his own taxes? He uses Quicken? Our Treasury Secretary uses Quicken! Is this just all a big fucking joke? I feel like we're living in a god damned Kafka novel.

Calm down kids. Everything will be alright. The fundamentals are strong.
