@Bonseff:
The Republicans/Tea-Party are going to win Congress, and win big.
Many massively rich people who donate to the Republican candidate for president every election have openly stated that they won't be giving any money to Trump. They're going to have a little extra political money kicking around. Some won't use, but many likely will. They're still interested in influencing politics, they just don't want to give it to Trump.
So where will they donate? Not to Hillary, of course, except in maybe a few rare cases. No, they're most likely going to give a good chunk of that money to various Republican/Tea Party Senators and Congressmen.
Consider, for example, a ten million dollar donation. Normally that would help a presidential candidate, but certainly not guarantee a win. Meanwhile, a hundred thousand could likely buy the election for any House/Senate candidate. So you've got to figure that a $10M savings in Trump donations could result in up to 100 senate or congress races going to Republicans/Tea Party. Now, it's likely going to be fewer than that, but you get the idea.
This is yet another reason why it's so important to vote for Hillary (as if you needed any more reasons!) No matter what happens with Trump, Congress is going to be a majority Republican/Tea Party. And you don't want to live in an America with Trump as president and a Republican/Tea Party majority in the House and Senate. It would be madness.
- From what I've read the House is going to stay in Republican hands for the near future. The Senate is likely to flip back to the Democrats this year.yuekit
- The Senate is decided by such a small number of races, you can be sure there will be huge spending on both sides.yuekit

I don't think he'll drop out, but it does make sense for the GOP to plan for it. Trump is unpredictable. He's a narcissist beyond anything we've ever seen in a presidential candidate, and he can't handle losing. If his numbers continue drop further than they already have, I suppose he could pull a little kid move like "OK guys the system is rigged, I'm dropping out because it's rigged."
This way he'd save himself the embarrassment of losing (in his mind, at least) and he'd be seen by his supporters as a hero who "refused to be bought by the elites" or whatever nonsense they want to tell themselves.
It could happen, but I doubt it.
First, he seems to think he's winning even when polls say he's not. So his numbers would have to drop significantly. The numbers are trending in that direction, but we're still months away.
Also, now that he KNOWS the GOP is planning a replacement for him, his dropping out wouldn't quite achieve the same effect of turning him into a hero for his supporters. Close, but not quite.
- But if I was a GOP leader, I would want a plan in place, because you never know with Trump. And it's better to have a plan than to be scrambling later.********
- They are too far down the rabbit hole to turn back - the chat is that they plan to beat him with soap in socks until he is under some kind of control.face_melter
- This is going to be part of the movie if it happens.monospaced
- He's just going to lose and that will be the end of that. The party will have 8 years to attempt an image change. I think it will be good for them.sofakingback

- Lots of doubt will be put on Trumps campaign because a loss for Ryan could be looked as a push away from established Republicans.IRNlun6
- Pence in favor of Ryan is just a way to maintain good relations in the event of a Trump win.IRNlun6
- But if I was a GOP leader, I would want a plan in place, because you never know with Trump. And it's better to have a plan than to be scrambling later.
