I don't think he'll drop out, but it does make sense for the GOP to plan for it. Trump is unpredictable. He's a narcissist beyond anything we've ever seen in a presidential candidate, and he can't handle losing. If his numbers continue drop further than they already have, I suppose he could pull a little kid move like "OK guys the system is rigged, I'm dropping out because it's rigged."

This way he'd save himself the embarrassment of losing (in his mind, at least) and he'd be seen by his supporters as a hero who "refused to be bought by the elites" or whatever nonsense they want to tell themselves.

It could happen, but I doubt it.

First, he seems to think he's winning even when polls say he's not. So his numbers would have to drop significantly. The numbers are trending in that direction, but we're still months away.

Also, now that he KNOWS the GOP is planning a replacement for him, his dropping out wouldn't quite achieve the same effect of turning him into a hero for his supporters. Close, but not quite.

    • But if I was a GOP leader, I would want a plan in place, because you never know with Trump. And it's better to have a plan than to be scrambling later.

    • They are too far down the rabbit hole to turn back - the chat is that they plan to beat him with soap in socks until he is under some kind of control.face_melter
    • This is going to be part of the movie if it happens.monospaced
    • He's just going to lose and that will be the end of that. The party will have 8 years to attempt an image change. I think it will be good for them.sofakingback
    • ^ a reality movie showing how brilliant he's been, manipulated the media and walks away having shaken up the entire political systemformed
    • I can see it happening. He could make a few hundred million, at least, much better biz decision than becoming Pres at $400k/year.formed
    • Then I might actually have respect for him.formed
    • Wisconsin election next week which has the possibility of unseating the Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.IRNlun6
    • Lots of doubt will be put on Trumps campaign because a loss for Ryan could be looked as a push away from established Republicans.IRNlun6
    • Pence in favor of Ryan is just a way to maintain good relations in the event of a Trump win.IRNlun6
