His speech was OK. It was a good re-introduction to what he is about but did not give any clear concrete ways to dealing with the issues.
Can't wait for the debates.

there were many excellent speeches at the convention, particularly Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Biden. But I thought Obama was on another plane entirely...

I get it. I realise that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don't fit the typical pedigree, and I haven't spent my career in the halls of Washington.
But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don't understand is that this election has never been about me. It's been about you.

I seriously can't understand how anyone couldn't respond to what he's saying. It isn't even remotely left wing for christ's sake.
good luck rand

I particularly liked it, because it showed some of the fire that people who are undecided (which just boggles my fucking mind, and always has when people can't make decisions like this). He's been said of coming off too soft at times, and raising the voice and getting everyone's attention with a emphatic pause with an over hand right is what some people need.
Then again, that's why Biden is on the ticket, haha.

Obama's whole campaign has been very layered with myth. There are allusions everywhere to some very great and powerful touchstones in American history and character. In Obama I see alot of Lincoln, Roosevelt and Reagan. I find his speeches I see alot of Emerson ..even last night he dropped some Einstein paraphrasing - "You understand that in this election, the greatest risk we can take is to try the same old politics with the same old players and expect a different result." and Einstein said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."..
I mean Obama IS the smart guy in the room and he's (or the people around him) really know how to connect his story to the deeper and older currents in the US mythos. I hope it works...

I liked the stage design with the circular steps to the lectern and that it was held in a stadium, an open oval. Obama's speech was good for recognizing that we can get ahead if we end the old narratives including the one started by MLK ( who was not mentioned by name) never mind the others shilled by neocons that his presence on that stage confirms.

It's always funny watching the right wing pundits and shills. Before the speech they were all like "Well, Obama has to make a case for himself. He has to lay out specifics. He has to hit back hard against McCain."
A minute after the speech the same hacks were saying "He focused to much on his own story. He was too specific, he now has too many flanks to defend. He went negative against McCain, which doesn't fit his image. Not a very good speech...."
That's when I threw my tea mug at David Brooks head...

Honestly, whoever gets the job is going to walk into a clusterfuck of a first day. Bush/Cheney are going to rip down the wallpaper and take the appliances with them as they scoot out the door. Obama or McCain will just be standing there in the White House going "What the fuck...."

I'm hoping the debates turn out something like the nixon/kennedy debates.
