I find it intriguing that so many people hate vegetarians. I'm not one by the way. Surely you can't dislike someone so violently becuase they don't, won't or can't eat meat. Surely what you despise is the general catch-all generalised socio-politcal stance that is taken by some people who also, more often than not, happen to espouse the virtues of vegetarianism as well as practising it and veering towards the militant promotion of it as an ethical choice.
I only ask becuase my Girlfriend is vegetarian, purely because she doesn't like meat. You'd be hard pushed to hate her for it though. She'd happily rustle you up a bacon sandwich and not even mention she doesn't eat meat.
So stop hating vegetarians. Its misguided: Hate preachers.

Chossy - my point stems more from my opinion that this subject should be opened up - people should appreciate that, as 7.34 says 'life is pain', and the same applies to most people. We all have our downer moments, we all all despair at something or other, we can all help each other along if we so choose.
I re-wrote my above response a couple of times, because I didn't want to give off the wrong impression, I didn't want to provide the level of justification for the act I really feel, because you're right - there has to be a responsibility, and shame on anyone who makes too light of it.
But saying 'this thread should be deleted' is bordering on ... well, it's just the wrong reaction, is all.

Yeah but I don't think you can spin the question;
'Suicide, when is it a good thing' round to some existentialist debate when it is obvious it was brought up in a juvenile and cack-handed manner. Also it's obvious the kind of response it will get so I think it is a bit irresponsible and immature.

honestly though
i have seen a few times in my life the repercussions of suicide and it's not pretty.i've known 2 people in my life whose fathers killed themselves.
one of my cousins killed herself when i was very young.
a friend of mine was dating a guy in college who took a shotgun to himself in his bathroom (imagine having to find that)
just in the past few weeks a friend of a friend tried to off themselves and was taken to the hospital. luckily he is still here.
i would estimate that any normal person has had suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. life is very hard and often times we can't cope - lose control - or have a break down. i scared myself pretty bad while in college once. i couldn't stop thinking about it one night. all i could do was repeat over and over to myself "do not get out of bed. do not go get a knife." i finally did get up, and i was on the verge of tears, and i called a friend and spent the night at their place. i think suicide is selfish and it makes me extraordinarily angry, but some of these people don't know how to get help, most often it is a problem with being depressed, which people who don't suffer from do NOT understand. being depressed is very serious and very hard to deal with; your brain does not work right.
sadly, many medications that people take for depression often do more harm than good.
