McCain takes lead over Obama: poll
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The Grand Old Party (GOP) is flexing it's muscle again. Temporarily deflated oil prices, no troop patrols in Iraq to give the illusion that the surge has worked, all to take away Obama's argument on the war. What they didn't expect is that the Taliban attacked a remote US outpost last month and killed like 8 US soliders and injured like 30, now they are sending 15,000 troops to Afghanistan. if this ain't a case of perpetual war, I don't know what is...

Obama seriously needs to take the gloves off. He has to go after McCain and his war prisoner strategy.
- gloves? He is a democrat. He doesn't want to get any dead baby on his hands********

I think things will change after the debate, so long as the commentary of McCain giving succinct, short detailed answers (read: stock stump speech quotes programmed by his handlers) is finally outweighed by Obama giving longer, less quick answers (read: thinking things through, being rational, being human)
Does it amaze anyone else how the press and commentators can put the exact opposite spin on what I just wrote?
It seems that McCain, *gasp, to them looks like the great speaker now, because he uses those canned, stock responses and doesn't stutter. But Obama, who like I said, thinks things through, pauses here and there, etc. gets called on it and they say it shows his lack of judgement, inability to form an opinion when he's not using a teleprompter.
How is this so? This is crazy logic.

i think it's mccain's military background that gives those short, direct answers, as much as obama's background in litigation influences his speaking style.

McCain is a stronger manager of the economy.

- who farted?robotron3k
- Well, considering his experience with the Keating Five scandal, yes, he wallows in corruption very well.TheBlueOne
- ..and if the US economy isn't about corruption, what is?TheBlueOne
- McCain will manage to usher in the full recession you're on the cusp of.ETM

McCain is gonna win... who are we kidding.
I can see after the elections the Europeans sooo surprised, like they did when Bush won.- I am afraid of that, quite afraid.mg33
- Sadly i think this is going to go the way of the 2000 election. The fix is in.TheBlueOne

McCain singing "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" should take him out of consideration to any sane person.

You claim to support democracy yet whine when the results it produces are not in your favor.
Democracy is only good if Obama wins, right?
- pretty much...clickblipclick
- bush was appointed president by the supreme court, what is democratic about that, trollfucker?mrdobolina
- isn't the point of democracy to give you the ability to whine when the candidate you voted for does not win or celebrate when they do.
fuck off back to your Scrooge McDuck money silo.mcLeod - they do win.

John McHurricane should be leading. Obi Wan has been quite passive this whole time. He needs get to the root of his lack of substance... Hilary is his only choice for vp. He can't win without her. He lacking in substance, and what's better than that age red wine Hilary.

Maybe Madonna can adopt Obama's brother...

Unfortunately the Republicans will continue to win until the day the Democrats grow a pair of balls and realize the country agrees with them on nearly every issue. I'm not holding my breath...
- Apparently the country doesn't.hedge
- But they do, it's a matter of being aggressive and not acting like little wusses.ukit
- ukit has a good point.. when Bush won last time, every liberal that I asked "what did you do to help your candidate? just stared blanklynicnichols
- stared blankly... if you people want obama, get out there- put up signs, stickers, understand and explain his view.. its within your reachnicnichols
- your reach... this is still a 50/50 election...nicnichols
- Actually Obama has far more grassroots support than McCain...I'm talking more about framing the debate in the media.ukit
- media and not being afraid of taking on the Republicans. People respond to boldness not timidity.ukit

I fear the worst. McCain will win, and everyone will be so shocked when fucko puts the US into a worse situation then it already is. Never ending war, ridiculous deficit, and a fucking albino chipmunk fucker running the country. Ugh.
- But we are already in a huge predicament. Quickly pulling out of the war could be just as disastrous. Don't u think?designbot
- it is disastrous to our economy to stay in.mrdobolina
- I'm not saying that jumping out of war won't pose it's own issues, but it's senseless to keep fuelling these terrible mistakes.brains
- I am both angry and scared. Hopefully we can end the chaos without fueling the fire even more.designbot
- Staying in Iraq will be more dangerous since their gov continues to press for a withdrawal date.IRNlun6
- If McCain wins and we refuse to give a reasonable expectation of a withdrawal, then we will have no allies except for the Sunnis.IRNlun6

I think black or female presidents will remain a Hollywood thing for quite some time to come, and no one should be surprised really.
