Trying to understand some e-com design issues. Getting your answers to these questions would be most appreciated.
01. If it's a new site/product what would make you purchase the item?
02. Are e-trust membership/badges on the site etc. important when shopping online?
03. Does the design of the site matter when making a purchase decision?
04. Is your purchase only based on need of the product at that moment?
Thanks,

1) If I thought it would save me time or money, or make me more attractive to the opposite sex, or if it would improve one or more of my hobbies.
2) I couldn't care less about those ugly badges.
3) Of course. The more attractive the site, the more likely I am to want what they're selling.
4) Depends on the product. If I need toilet paper, I'll buy it wherever, right now. If it's a new guitar, color, fit, finish, reputation of dealer, reputation of product, ease of use, etc., etc., etc., until you're sick of the endless details that concern me come into play. And it could take me years to make up my mind.

1) the same as any other product bought or consumed at any other venue on or offline, I don't differentiate. the balance of perceived value and necessity.
2) not at all
3) yes, even the perception of well thought out and executed design gives credibility to the site and whether I'm safe to buy from them.
4) yes
Think of yourself as a consumer first and foremost, all these questions and answers are pretty black and white, right? take off your designer/business hat and just think about how you go about making buying decisions online.- Thanks...Yes they are but sometimes it's hard to see through the design hat when it's on your face..tparsons
