I used to drink a lot, binging, twice a week for about 8 hours a time. I woke up oe morning my heart was doing 195 at rest, doc said was drink that caused it. [doc was muslim] Other doc said it wasn't drink. Anyway, scared the shit out of me and my wife doesn't drink either so it's easy now not to, was hard to atsrt with though. So now I drink about once every 4 months, so 5 pints is a fair amount for me! It was a dark beer, can't remember which - tasted like London Pride.

Thats the trick really, to just get out of the habit of prolonged and intense drinking sessions. When I was 19 I used to drink at least 5 pints a day at college, and one night managed about 36 units in 2 hrs, that would kill me now.
Now I'll just drink maybe once a month, have 2 pints of thoughtfully selected real, dark beer which I savor, maybe a shot of 15yr old malt Scotch with 2 ice cubes and 2 or 3 vodka tonics. That lot sets me off just fine, Im sober by 1am in the sandwich shop, and I don't get a hangover.
It's taken me nearly 20 years of drinking to learn what my body will put up with, and Im really glad Im not always drinking, every day, with little or no effect other than having no money for food.

yeah. One thing I did to make myself feel better about not drinking is work out the annual cost of getting battered 2 - 3 times a week and then worked out the days spent feeling like shit. I figured I was spending around £5000+ on making myself incapable of doing much for aound 150 days each year. That's over a third of each year sepnt hungover. Crazy really.

I can't function at all hungover, partly why I never drink in the work week.

See, I'm just being cool to mid-70s blaw, keeping my numbers up to ensure he still gets to pound a few everyday. :D

Let's all agree that there are different levels of "hungover". Ya? There are the stinger headache, mild hangovers. And there are the more severe, totally hurting for the entire day, bed ridden except to piss out your ass hangovers.
I have gotten very familiar with the Advil hangover. This takes the edge off a raging headache, but adds a little funk to your stomach, and loosens up your joints and muscles. It's quite a fucked up feeling really.
