...as are on ferraris and lamborghinis. how do they work?
right:shift up
left: shift down
'R' button: reverse
both simultaneously: neutral ?
if you go from 3rd gear to neutral then hit the right paddle, will it downshift or will it go back to 3rd gear?

It will select the appropriate gear for the speed your engine is turning at at any given time. I am getting some paddle shifters fitted to my car, taking the tiptronic shifter and moving it to my stearing wheel, it's pretty simple and it will be smooth as hell :D

Right side: + 1 gear
Left side: -1 gearIf, say, you were in 5th gear, you'd have to hit the left paddle 4 times when you slowed down to a stop.
Honestly, though, I leave it on the auto 90% of the time.
(this is on a BMW M3 with the SMG transmission)
