Maybe you should enter some contests or go on craigslist and do a logo for some hippie earth company with no money.

Not a teacher.
It's kind of strange. I've been working at a company for a few years that has gradually moved its way into being a shit production shop.
A true creative brief has never crossed my desk in all my time here.
I spoke with someone yesterday and they said I need to show some more problem solving work in my portfolio if I want to make the move to art director (my design skills are apparent), and I agree.

I was thinking of having someone go into a supermarket or drug store and pick out a few products and saying these are:
Your Product
Your Audience
Your Task
Your Budget

Not that hard to simulate, for your needs in creating some spec work. It's ultimately just a set of criteria for the project. Or at least the ones I deal with are.
-Necessary brand assets
-Target audience
-Intended media or environment
-Any seasonal info
-Message points to include (i.e. it has to say "Wipe your ass with confidence" on all screens)And away you go....
You can probably make that up for spec work, or reverse engineer from something else.

Wouldn't those be proprietary info?

Is there a place online that has old creative briefs on it.
I want to do some spec work to build up my conceptual skills but I don't want to make the brief because I feel i'd create the solution before I created the problem.
