Apparently, if you are designing a website for a major news agency, you are not allowed to put the olympic logo ( rings) or the beijing logo anywhere on the page.
Yeah I know they're copyrighted, I just though they would allow it in this type of situation....it's the damn news.

which news site ?

Nope, not at all.
What? You thought the Olympics was some fraternal coming together of humankind, in an open spirit of competition, sans-borders, restrictions or politics?
All abat the monies, innit?

They're Nazi's with the logo and their brand in general. I've had to deal with it for the Vancouver Debtlympics. The IOC even forced the city to make companies with "Olympic" in their name to change it.

How about a photo of the olympic rings? Like from a flag or someting.

I don't think they can stop you. It for editorial work, therefore copyright doesn't apply. But it would have to be in context... like on a poster or a flag blowing, it'd be unwise to use the vector artwork as they could ask you who supplied it.
Same thing if the news uses a crowd scene, they don't need to go and get everyones permission in the crowd to show them on TV.

No, I vectorized the rings and Beijing logo and put them in the banner. I saw it done on this site and figured it was ok: http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/
I wasn't even allowed to hand draw "Beijing 2008" with brush and ink, cause they were affraid of getting sued.
- maybe it's because they have exclusive coverage of the games in Canada?sikma
