Hey guys.
I have an illy cs2 file with 4 (one used twice) images linked to it. The problem is the illy file is about 50mb, i cant understand why as the images are definetly not embedded.
I have resized the images in illy as well as rotated a few.. could that be making the illy file size so big?
Cheers

sometimes when you copy/paste a linked image it then embeds it, could it be that?
Otherwise, yeah, scaling etc can lead to large sizes. Do you have a shit-load of vectors in there too?

Hi there, ive checked again and they are def linked.. i even moved the images and it asked me to re-link them so it cant be that.
Nope, only a few words... must just be from the scaling... seems excessive.
Cheers Ian.
- That really does seem excessive though, should'nt really be that large a file size.ian

if its an eps i think it embeds, if '.ai' it just links it.

Hi James I am an illustrator expert.
First of all, what is the project? Do you also have a lot of vector art? that can increase.
Second, why don't you just embed the image? because you are resizing it anyway, it is best to embed.
Than, RASTERIZE it! when you embed and rasterize a image it will decrease the file size as you decreased the image size.
Always send the images files together, or keep them on the same folder in case you need to modify it.
to rasterize use OBJECT -> Rasterize -> select 300dpi, transparent or white.

in the save dialog box, the > create compatible PDF checked will increase the size of the file, but unchecking it will make it uncompatible with indesign and others
- You can still link the file to indesign.SoulFly
- wont allow me to place in in indesign with it unchecked...JamesBoynton

Oh sorry, somebody had already brought the point about the vectors.
Well, the only other thing is when you are saving.
When you save the Illustrator file, if you save as .ai, always uncheck the "make PDF compatible" or uncheck any options for PDF - what that does is it actually makes an another invisible PDF file...it increases the size dramatically. so always uncheck that.
If you need a PDF in the future, just export a PDF.

this happened me once:
i had a 62MB .fla file (don't know how this happened).
opened it in flash and saved this file as a copy with another name.
checked the file info and it now was only 1MB.

Soulfly - thats worked... fantastic.
Bizarrely it doesnt always work for me if the file has been saved before with the "make PDF compatible" checked.
Cheers
- so i just saved as a dif filename and with it unchecked and it worked!JamesBoynton
