Oh sorry, somebody had already brought the point about the vectors.
Well, the only other thing is when you are saving.
When you save the Illustrator file, if you save as .ai, always uncheck the "make PDF compatible" or uncheck any options for PDF - what that does is it actually makes an another invisible PDF file...it increases the size dramatically. so always uncheck that.
If you need a PDF in the future, just export a PDF.
