just make a fat stroke in Illy....rounded caps...expand

how you do a stroke pattern??? patterns are allways expanded!

draw the lines. put the text on top, broken into outlines. use the path finder tool to cut the lines into the shape of the text, then do what marychain said and make the strokes fat and rounded caps. done.

1. Create some horizontal lines, maybe using a blend.
2. Mask them with the letter shape.
3. Expand the shape. You now have the editable lines cut in the shape of the mask.
4. Round the corners.

Also, for the final step, if you want more control over the rounded corners, turn the strokes into shapes, then apply the rounded corners filter.

when you expand, you mean Fill and Stroke? Then pathfind with Crop?

make it stripey then apply median (in PS)

drag and make a stoke box with the envelope tool, make another shape with a gray scale gradient over it, then use the warp function to mask it all into a compound path
