Just curious... is it insanely difficult to get a job in the Netherlands as a designer (interactive/motion or print)?
Can't be easy I imagine...

insanely difficult
- meltoni0
guess not...
i've got at least two friends working over there as designers.
BTW..... typography is what they love the most!

but watch out for his camera made from an oven.

depends, you can fairly easily work for an international studio, but if you want to work for a Dutch company, can be quite tricky because of language and cultural differences, and if you do prefer the aforementioned route, then why even bother?

and also visa/work permit issues, if you're over 31 and don't hold EU citizenship then you must be sponsored by an agnency/studio and they're required to pay you at least 43,000... and most Dutch agencies wouldn't even bother unless you were spectacular...

well then... time to develop spectacular-ness...

maybe I'll just try for Seattle...

I was in Amsterdam for half a day and didn't dig it that much. Maybe if I were more local....

Sig if you want the best of both, you could try my mate Andrew, he runs a shop where he splits his time between Portland and A'dam.. they do motion, interactive and print...

neue you rock... that's like living in a dream world
- not if you've been going back and forth every other month for 6/7 years :)neue75_bold
- i don't know... seems pretty cool to meSigDesign
- ukit0
Why does he split his time like that? Clients in both places?
- neue75_bold0
yeah, nike is here and there, he initially came over to visit, fell in love with the city and decided to set up shop here too...
but once you settle down a bit, have a house etc over there, and get older, it starts to seem less logical...

Well, it's who ya know if you want to get a job.
I hear all the designers are on call day and night and they even have weekend shifts to meet big account retainer demands. They're all shagged out and drugged up and all in therapy (and that's just the account handlers) their apartments don't have ovens and new year's is always a good time to run in the streets by the canal to throw fireworks at people you don't like the look of.I hear the night life is pretty cool though and it's a bicycle-friendly city but there's dog poo everywhere - correct me if I'm wrong...
- if you work at 180 or W+K...neue75_bold
- and who would want to work there?neue75_bold

I had definitely not heard of the rampant dog poo...
