I really don't think it's THAT bad.. I know that in US alot of people don't like walmart, is there anyway this could be making people hate it even more? We don't have walmart here in Aus so I'm just basing it on the link..
I think the old (or existing) logo has almost military overtones, like they want to dominate or something (which they kinda do right?).. I think the new logo looks clean and simple with a modern typeface, a bit clinical like a chemist or pharmacy maybe.. but not TOO bad. Is the yellow anus their attempt to bring the existing star over to the new logo?

I like the font choice more... I bet the anus was the next generation of the star. I like the start more, but at the end of the word "Walmart" I doubt it would have worked.

Those logos are definitely NOT better than the new Walmart logo..
They're for mum and dad shops who want glitz and bevels and reflections cause they think it looks cool (and they don't want to spend, so use designers who aren't afraid to be cheap and use templates).. The two colours and simplicity of the new logo are going to make it really easy to recognise (if they stick with it that is)..

proportion of star to type is way too large. pretty sterile looking overall, could be anything.
