I really like BJJ and those MMA disciplines. I want to take a course even though I 'm 38... Hope I won't break myself a hip or something :c\

That sounds interesting, actually.

i did a few videos that have this jiu-jitsu guy named James Painter. In addiiton to BJJ, he teaches this style called Rock N Roll Prison fighting. Brutal, dirty fighting for confined spaces and life or death situations. Most popular move: the "Slap, Grab and Twist". You can guess which area of the body this refers to.
- Rock N Roll Prison Fighting? Sounds like "52 Blocks"...TheBlueOne
- the sausage ?al_la
- yuplocustsloth
- 52 blocks is no joke, that sh-t is crazy ghetto-fu!nicnichols
- I think the Painter guy is a rip off artist though. Total bullshido material.TheBlueOne
- The videos about RockNRoll i've heard are hokey. But the stuff i've seen is different, more BJJ...locustsloth
- ..the guy is genuine, both in his art and in his personalitylocustsloth

I'm a capoeira and RBSD guy myself. The wife is a judo blackbelt...dig the BJJ stuff, spent some time learning basic guard/mount stuff..that's all I need to know really for my needs...

Buddy in photo class does it. I thought about it, but ultimately I put more time into music so I decided not to distract myself with it.

I would recommend it for anyone... aside from being a killer workout, its really the best overall Martial Art if you are going to do just one.. most schools will mix some Muay Thai for stand up too.. I spend way to long as a kid standing in a like doing hokey 'katas' to get my TKD Black Belt.. in BJJ you actually spar every night..
- TKD is teh gheyTheBlueOne
- Ya but I was like 6
nicnichols - sparring is indeed the time you are doing an aerobic/halve marathon/sprint/weig... lifting at the same timekeiTai

Enthusiastically uttering the phrase "Yeah, I'm really into BJJ!" out loud, or "Golly I'm tense. Could sure engage in some BJJ right now." should tell you a lot.
- Most people who practice it just call it 'Jiu Jitsu'..nicnichols
- i am immediately reminded of the scene in parenthood with steve martin.7point34
- nah...there is a difference between BJJ and regular Jiu JitsuTheBlueOne
- Ya..but you don't hear the (Brazilian) instructor calling it BJJ, its like a candian saying canadian bacon...nicnichols
- Just like you don't hear teh gheys saying "Let's do some of teh ghey stuff." :Dharlequino
- I've heard gay brasilians say "let's do the ghey stuff.."...TheBlueOne

i took a couple of classes of BJJ at a local MMA gym but found I was too out of shape, so I started getting in better shape and eating healthier. Once Im in better all around health I plan on joining the BJJ class again.

I always found the Brazil/Japan connection fascinating. I have done capoeira since 1995, and then met my wife about 8 years ago. So I am constantly surrounded by either brasilians or japanese. Not only did Jiu Jitsu come to Brazil, but capoeira for the last ten years or so has been going to Japan.
Brasil has the largest population of ethnically Japanese outside of Japan, and the Japanese are held in super high regard in Brasil. And in the last few years Japan has made a concentrated effort to get ethnically Japanese from Brazil to work the manual labor jobs in Japan - because well Japan is real touchy about who actually imigrates in. I love when I go to those sections in Tokyo or Nagoya where the Japanese Brasilian are because everyone looks Japanese but hugs and kisses and the body language is all western and shit...and you see all the guarana ads everywhere. It's a trip...

- That actually looks like some kind of rapeismith
- Rape? No..that's a sidemount..no orifice's on the side...TheBlueOne
