I always found the Brazil/Japan connection fascinating. I have done capoeira since 1995, and then met my wife about 8 years ago. So I am constantly surrounded by either brasilians or japanese. Not only did Jiu Jitsu come to Brazil, but capoeira for the last ten years or so has been going to Japan.

Brasil has the largest population of ethnically Japanese outside of Japan, and the Japanese are held in super high regard in Brasil. And in the last few years Japan has made a concentrated effort to get ethnically Japanese from Brazil to work the manual labor jobs in Japan - because well Japan is real touchy about who actually imigrates in. I love when I go to those sections in Tokyo or Nagoya where the Japanese Brasilian are because everyone looks Japanese but hugs and kisses and the body language is all western and shit...and you see all the guarana ads everywhere. It's a trip...
