Yes, if you build up your portfolio it can really pay off. Don't expect the money to roll in over night though.

There are people on the site who make well over six figures. iStock paid out over $21 million in royalties last year.

I've got a handful of stuff to istockphoto and I keep submitting. You only make money when people download and I'm new to it so I haven't made anything yet.
- How long have you had stuff up ninja.2cents
- my first pic made it on the site on 4 may 2008ninjasavant

can you submit anything or is there some kind of review process that the work goes through?
- The review process is very strict. I would get really mad when stuff was rejected at first, but is rejected for a reason.2cents
- And once you get a handle of what will get rejected you avoid uploading it.2cents
- really like what? if you dont mind me asking,PIITB
- They are sticklers for technical aspects. Sharp focus, zero noise.2cents
- < you can't blame them though.canuck
- yeah, i get frustrated sometimes but they gotta protect their necksninjasavant

There is a review process, I think they also specify what kind of images they're looking for at any given time.

ok last question about istock, who decides what sizes and credits?

I've been thinking about doing this as well.
Does anyone use a different service for submitting photos and getting paid?

Anyone make money off vector stuff? Seems like vector would be more desirable to a lot of people.
- redant0
Yea it would be great to know if it was feasible
- ukit0
They have Flash on there too. I'm wondering, anyone if you have to sign over exclusive rights to them on the work you sell?

If you guys want to post up some vector stuff I can give you an idea as to whether it will get accepted or not. Good vector can be a big money draw.

Hey 2cents, as someone who apparently has had some success with istockphoto would you mind taking critiquing the set I have up so far? I'd love to know how to improve. Any other comments also welcome.

Not me: Apparently there's something called 'You have to be 18+ to submit stuff".
- But I get some profit off smugmug, so there, suck it istock, omgitsacamera

There's a big difference in quality between highest rated and most downloaded. http://www.istockphoto.com/most_…
