Going to Cuba

So I booked a trip to Cuba this morning leaving Saturday. Its my first there. What do I definitely have to bring back from there? (design wise)
And should I bring my canon 5D with me to take pictures or just a little point and shoot? Worried I might get jacked for it.

My sister got her point and shoot jacked a few weeks ago on the last day of her trip in Havana and all her photos from the trip were in the camera on the sole flash drive. They broke the strap right off her arm and she never saw him again.
-Bring 2 point and shoots and bring a new flash card for each day of shooting to diminish any potential losses of media. Otherwise she really enjoyed it but said she wasn't supposed to bring much back.

Have fun. I was contemplating going there 3 weeks ago. Didn't want to have to fly through Toronto so I went to Ixtapa, Mexico instead.
Only bad thing I've ever heard about Cuba is that the food sucks. Seems to be a common complaint.

Cuba (Havana) is not that dangerous for tourists anymore. If you have common sense you should be ok with your camera. It's the cuban government you have to worry about jacking you with their imaginary world currency rates.
If you go to the Hotel Nacional and walk up the hill on the main street around 10 blocks, all the university and kids hang out there on the weekend. The higher up you go the older the kids, partying dancing, passed out. You might want to get a local to show you around that though, pretty crazy. 1000's of people having fun.
Don't walk into any bars the locals take you to pick your own, or you'll be paying for 400% tourist markup drinks for them since they are running some scam with the bartender they know.
Overall Cubans are pretty cool people.
Design wise there's tons of Art centers and artists near Old Havana

Going to Cuba was the best vacation in my life. Congrats. No worries about your camera, just be smart about it like any place you go.
BH26's advice is pretty spot on. Walk the Malecon, buy $8 prints at the Film Poster "Museum", have a nice meal at one of the underground restaurants, say yes when a girl asks you to dance, and check out as much live music as possible.

Hey, how do I get my resort loving Fiancee to want to hang out in Havana for the day so I can take photos

If you're in Varadero
There's a super crazy bar/ club called the Cave or Pirates cave, They have a cuban cabaret earlier in the night, then the place turns into a Rum infused madhouse.
Havana is must though, even if you only go for the day

being from the states, how hard is it to get there? i heard you can fly out of mexico and they won't stamp your passport. anyone? i want to go bad.

Cubans don't stamp your passport, only their visa which comes on a separate card. They know your situation and still want your dollar.
