best advice I got when I was looking for mine was to look at yourself (full length) in the mirror wearing it. give you a good perspective on it.
Also think about what you do with your hands, you don't want it getting banged out of shape or catching on things all the time etc etc.
I ended up with something quite different to what i had in mind, but am really happy with it.

I just got a 10mm wide white gold band made. It's like they just cut the end off a pice of pipe. I paid per gram (17g) and it wasnt that expensive ($600). The jeweller wasn't exactly excited about the project but I like the finished product. Is actually pretty comfortable now its wore in (4years).

my husband's is the one on the bottom. mine matches, of course. compared to the highway robbery that is platinum at goldsmith's, commissioning rings that are unique was actually a much better deal.

Unless you want people talking and laughing behind your back, make sure it's white gold or platinum, not yellow gold.

choosing the materials was the most difficult decision we had to make. we went with palladium and silver. palladium is the darker grey metal in the mix, which is a cousin of platinum, but a bit softer.
