It is a programmable platform, if you jailbreak it there's hundreds if not thousands of apps available for it.
Mine does:
- mms
- single sms erasing
- sms forwarding
- send contacts via sms
- voice recording (video available, but I never used it)
- file storage
- hidden videos/pics
- a switch to get rid of the writing hints
- youtube downloads
- last.fm playback over wifi and scrobbling of what I play on iPod to my account
- reads ebooks/pdfs/docs/xls/
- google talk, skype
- text editing
- multi-lang dictionary
- sending files (including mp3s)
- remote touchpad for the computer www.touchpadpro.comSome of these apps will be available through AppStore, but some will never make it there because they run in the background (not allowed for AppStore apps)
- have you got that touchpad working, ive installed it but cant get it workingFallowDeer

Spam filtering through gmail means every email is "From" rather than the actual sender. niggly.
- not if you use GoogleApps for your domain and setup IMAP rather than POP for managing your email on multiple devices .thebottlerocket

I went to Zurich for one day and my mail was checking automatically, didn't realise the data roaming costs were so expensive. now have a bill for £150

"the iphone doesn't have spam filtering, as far as i know"
LOL. this is insane. since when did a mobile become a mail server? why on earth would one wish to have filters applied at the end-device, and not the mail server (regardless of POP or IMAP)? the very idea is an easy compromise to the mail account anyway.
- google is not *the* answer... although it is a pretty simple way to use as a 'spam filter'
- set up account filtering AT the mail server- this is so easy to do and does not alter the integrity of your valid addresses
- do not 'download' the messages to the device, but sync them. IMAP is preferable for this, although a POP server can be mimic'd to do the same, in a way."- Is the iphone compatible with Dreamhost?"
srsly??!? i cannot believe this is a real question.
