what the hell is with this guy, I mean honestly, who sits there and imagines what a building would look like if it were a crumpled paper cup?
and now we'll have to stare at this piece of shit:

- Pay me off and I'll share what ever hatred you'd like.doctor
- Or convince hedge to hate it too. That'll also do for me.doctor
- I usually dislike Gehry poo but I don't mind this so muchMelanie

While I don't care for this building, it is certainly better than most 99% of the architecture in this country.
You could trivialize the 'crumpled paper' description if you want, just like you could Duchamp's urinal. Having been fortunate enough to have Randy Jefferson as a prof (he's Gehry's engineer/partner), I can assure you there is much more to his architecture than just a simple formal study.

C'mon, who doesn't sit there and imagine what a building would look like if it were a crumpled paper cup?

What is this fad of hating Frank Gehry?
You should be on the hipsters thread...I wonder if urban outfitters is selling "I hate gehry" t shirts already..
- it's really not a fad, it's how he approaches his work.doesnotexist
- The fad is, that he scribbles down an idea, has a team build it, and than get all the credit.organic_grid
- That's just ridiculous. Have you visited his office? If you get the chance, go and look at his process. Pretty amazing.
I'd also suggest touring his buildings before making any conclusions, the space/lighting is also amazing (in many, not everyone).formed - You can get a "Fuck Frank Gehry" t-shirt.
He's even worn it!

- I actually happen to know José Antonio G. who works at Gehry Partners, what you just said is not realityMeeklo

looks nice to me. quite subtle compared to much of his work.

It sure is a hel of a lot better than any other building in that photo. At least it looks like someone put some thought into it. We need more of this in the US.
- we need more of this in general everywheredoesnotexist

looks ok, nice work , iam not a fan of his work but hes definetlly passionate about his work, which i cant say about a lot of architects

I was a fan of some of Frank Gehry's earlier work like: Millenium Park in Chicago and The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao but his recent work has evolved into all style without any substance. He has become known as a "one trick pony" within the architecture world.
Sure some of hate is based on jealousy, but alot of the hate is based on a man that mass produces "cookie cutter" architectural structures and receives world-renowned fame for doing so.
Millenium Park
Guggenheim Museum- +1doesnotexist
- Correction: He is known as "one trick pony" within a small % of the arch world. lets not make stuff up pleaseMeeklo
- there is arqu that like him and some don't, his work provoques reaction, thats allMeeklo
- lets be fair, thats all.Meeklo

- I'll stop defending, but after studying his work, taking his classes and visiting numerous of his buildings (all pre Bilbao), I have...
His work spans a lifetime. It wasn't until Bilbao, when he was what, 60? that he became world famous.
It is a little naive to generalize his life time of architecture as all bad.
One of the most influential architects of this century, design and technologically.

He's got a lifetime of influential work, most people haven't seen anything pre Bilbao (which he was about 60 or so when it was built).
Love him or not, he's one of the most influential architects of the last 100 years, both on a design side and a technological side (use of CATIA starting it all).

I think the article is actually wrong, hes from Toronto but lives in LA. (Does that make him an LA Architect)

I don't care for his interiors which seem arbitrary and dismissive of flow if not purpose. His art museums inside are murder. Lousy light, weird scale, cheap.
