I think about the Chicago suburbs about as much as I think about gymnastics, so, never, but I do think about steak quite a bit and will gladly suggest David Burke Prime as a top destination. Went there for V-Day - they have up to 80 day dry-aged steaks. Dry aging is not a Chicago thing, but the steaks are unreal.
The Capital Grill is also very good - they also do dry-aged meat and the decor inside is really great: huge oil paintings of hunting dogs and related critters. Very nice place.
- thanks man. I hesitate though because I'll be rolling solo and have never gone out to eat alone. Ha I'll be THAT GUYstoplying

thanks...this is helpful.
I'm not looking to go big, but I just want to see some of the city, maybe get a Chicago steak, and a beer or two. Gots to work Sunday.

cabs suck in general in chicago. they LOVE to drive in circles if they know you aren't from the city.

Some cabs will have a flat rate to and from most suburbs so if you have to, call ahead to a few places and ask what their rates are. If you'll be staying out real late that might be your only option.

i hear the 'burbs are quite tame. don't take a cab for sure, you will be out a lot of money. take the metra in and party.

don't cab it from there. it will cost you an arm and a leg. you're definitely up and out in the suburbs. here...

I filtered this topic and got a lot of good links, but my situation is that of an express day (this Sat) to visit the city, in proximity to where I'm staying.
I get in around 3pm and I'm going to be staying up near Lake Forest which seems to be about 30 miles north of the city.
Now my q's:
Is that a decent area? Or is it suburbs?
Is there a train that runs that way or should I cab it? The cubs are playing early that day so no ball game.
Any info will help - thanks!
