What are all the steps I can take to help Flash video play better on older machines/ slow connections? I played around with the buffering amount in the FLVPlayback component. Any other steps you can take to help video play smooth on all platforms?

The main key is to find a balance between quality and compression rate. You can't really control how old processors perform or how fast the internet is today. I guess you could offer different resolution levels like Large (high speed) Small ( Slow Internet ).

One note:
If you ever compress a video to FLV and you get the tran-lines going on (horizontal lines). Especially during fast paced transitions. This is caused from the source video being interlaced. A lot of times if you export from Final cut (or others) to quicktime this option is skipped. You can take your source QT file and open it in QT Pro... in the settings there is a de-interlace video. Select it and re-export then convert to flv. Instead of lines you will subtle blurs which looks mucho better.Took me a while to figure that one out... Thought I would share.
