I'm starting up on my own as a freelance designer in addition to my full time permanent job (need to pay the mortgage etc!), i need a bank account to show my earnings for the legal side of things -
i don't want to shell out for a proper business account - because im unsure of my earnings and if it'll be worthwhile doing and paying for - and i dont want to use my current account as it's on the thin line of being empty anyway.
Any ideas - Post Office savings account was mentioned.
What does everyone else use for freelancing?
Cheers

Then just set up another normal bank account in your name? If you're starting off, you don't really need business services (which in my experience is little worth the effort anyway). Talk to your existing bank an see what they say - then do a comparison with other banks that have branches locally.
I don't know why you're considering a Post Office savings account.. that's a bit odd in this context.

Yeah. I've just got an additional savings account and everything goes through that.

Go with Abbey as you don't need to pay any fees with their business account, plus it is simple just sticking your cheques in an envelope and paying them in through the cashpoint.
Was with HSBC at my previous place and they were rubbish.

At my Credit Union (in the US) I have 3 accounts - a personal acct, joint acct. w/ my wife, and my freelance business account - the business act. only costs around $5.00 / month.
- it was my attempt at being organized, though all income is taxed on me personally - so really doesn't matter in the endbulletfactory

there are quite a few banks will give you a business account free for the first 6 months, or year.

file a dba (doing business as) with the county your in, should be <$20. Then you can go to any bank and set up a free small business checking. Most have a free plan nowadays. Then you can have clients write checks to XXXXXXXX company instead of you, the individual. Looks more professional.

Swiss bank account, just because.

I use ING for my business stuff. It is a breeze to set up and pays a decent return (considering it is not really an investment account)
