Hi,
I work for a digital recruitment firm, and have placed Australians in London agencies.
Do you have a Holiday Visa, HSMP, 5 year Visa?
I have a couple of great Digital Design perm roles if you are interested? Feel free to drop me an email at zack(at)precisedigital(dot)co(do... - even if you just want some advice.
Oh, and living wise; it's got to be E.London. Not too deep into Hackney but somewhere up Kingsland Road is a good option. It's fun, relatively cheap and not that dodgy.
- "Not too deep into Hackney"... you sound like a prick. Some of us live there and even further.Banquo

I'd recommend lining up a few interviews, i know www.gluelondon.com are always looking for talent having just left there and can safely say the industry seems buoyant for Senior Designers freelancing. Rates are better it seems than they were a few years back and to be honest I'd rather be freelancing than shitting myself about getting sacked/made redundant with the current inflated financial climate, but it's safe to say that this industry will stay afloat and keep it's head above water more sufficiently than others, as companies due tend to advertise more during a recession.

If you're looking to rent Black Katz are London's largest lettings only agency - www.blackkatz.com. They've got properties all over London and let out about 800 a month. Good luck
- spit 3 times. knock on wood. walk back wards.akrokdesign
- Black Katz... don't go anywhere near them. Cheap and nasty!goldieboy

You have got to be kidding me.
A word of advice would be to avoid Black Katz like the plague, undoubtedly one of the worst, most notorious agents in the business. Only one thing is guaranteed with Black Katz, and that is that you will never get your deposit back and you will pay over the odds for completely underwhelming management service.
Someone ban this lame spammer.

Is it common in london to get absolutely no reply from job applications? I've applyed for 4 or 5 now and had not so much as a "you're crap, sorry".
- *appliedWhiteFace
- yes. quite commonflashbender
- Ive found in london that you need to hassle people to get shit done.Stugoo

I moved to London from Toronto Canada last year. So far its been great, but a whirlwind for sure. I live up in west hampstead with my girlfriend in a decent sized one bed flat for about 270pw. 5 min walk from the tube station.
The one thing that bugs me about london is that there are A LOT of classist a-holes. as soon as i say west hampstead, they automatically assume i am some rich kid who throws away money.
it doesnt matter which area in london you live, you will always be labled as something just by the area you are from.
in any case, west hampstead is nice! some decent priced flats, safe and quite central too! good luck!
- west hampstead? im looking for a one bedroom place atmStugoo
- I have the same thing in West Kensington. Typpical response "Oh, you must do quite well for yourself".flashbender
- west hampstead: not really Hampstead at all – PAUPER! lol********

don't bother, all the australians over here just moan about how cold it is.
- flashbender0
that's because they are all wearing flip flops, board shorts and hoodies when it is only like 12 or 13. Silly kangaroo people

Get ready for a "life-style downgrade". Professionally it could be a good move though.
You just have to decide how important your career is for you. And also think about what you do in your spare time in Australia. Could you do that in London?
If your answer is "I have no spare time because I am a workaholic", then London is waiting for you!

Honestly, dont come over here if you want to become another whingeing Aussie designer, who constantly complains about the weather, work conditions, and spends their time telling everyone and their uncle how much better Australia is, especially if your favourite phrase is ‘this is a f***ing joke’, theres enough of you already here!
