Move to Kentish Town, great area in central London and still not too expensive. Good transport links, good pubs and close to lots of good areas (the Heath, Camden, Old Street, Soho, etc...) Don't move to the Isle of Dogs or Canada Water, it's boring as shit down there.

Ok, so an artist/ designer, where exactly is a good place to live? culture, accessibility and rent wise please :)

One thing i've noticed, working in LDN is that when people come from another, more laidback country they take a while to get up to speed...... I think it's because it's really fast here, fuck man, I might move away and tear shit up somewhere.....

haha culture, accessibility AND cheap rent, you don't want much do you?
it's cheap around Stoke Newington and nice community feel but the public transport sucks.
around hoxton/old street is where everyone is a designer / stylist / photographer, good bars but rent will be higher. also no trees, very industrial looking.
i'm in west london, near westbourne park/queens park and i love it here. public transport is very good but i ride my bike anyways. rent isn't always cheap but the longer you look the better deals you'll find. it's kinda suburban but with loads of different cultures so i like it.
you'll probably end up staying in the same area for years so check it out before you rush into anything.
beware the triangle of evil in camden.
- stoke isnae cheap.
and it is full of 3 wheeled prams.******** - i guess my friends on cheap rent have been there a while... but they have a GARDEN!!! luxury! they have bike traffic jams tho, everyone's on a treadlyvespa

Short business trip is fine in London but living there another story
- vespa0
also, i know seven sisters is the arse end of no-where but i've just discovered that 2 photographer friends both live at Studio 28 on Lawrence Road, the place is like some kinda creative commune -- everyone is an artist or musician & the rent is cheap.
the lifts on the way in look a bit like sid and nancy tied off in there but the apartments are REALLY lovely.

East end (shoreditch, hoxton, hackney whitechapel) is great. Quite cheap, gardens often available, and many creative agencies are moving close to liverpool street.

I'd actually not recommend Stoke Newington.
There's a reason no trains or buses go there.

you can get some really nice flats in clapton (e5) for a decent price. at's a bit dodgy, but not that bad. and their aren't as many shoreditch twats as in the rest of hackney.

- not called 'The Shoreditch twat' for nothing...babaganush

I went to Camden last weekend for the first time ages.
It was fucking awful. Apart from the fact it's become the Hen/Stagg night capital of London, there were armies of guys wearing peak-caps and what can only be described as "golfing attire". They even had their trousers tucked into their socks. There was fucking dozens of them. Not just 1 or 2 - dozens.
Trousers.
Tucked in socks.
- it was always shite.********

Just get here and start wandering around London looking for a place. You'll discover which area you like most and how London works in general.
- coldy0
use 1st Contact for setting up a limited company, tax/accountancy and all that shit. I used other means and have friends who seem to have it much easier than me with them.
Living - I think west/north west. But you want to talk to people you know who are into the same sort of shit as you because you're going to get very varied recommendations from here. ie. coke/sex/design offenders.
If you want to travel, you should freelance, having more cash and holiday freedom is key.- *nod* Definitely trying to get freelance work for senior designer/ AD, is it around 200-250?hiiee
- about right. Maybe 300 + if you're good and in certain circumstancesbabaganush
- senior interaction designer? 300 +vespa
