Was looking for something around 1T and I heard Lacie's aren't that good. Any recommendations?

I was thinking about a G-Drive. Can anyone second morilla?

Buy an enclosure and put whatever drive you want in it.

the G's are sturdy and fast as hell.

most external hard drive manufacturers just make the enclosure, not the drive itself. for instance, a G-Drive might be a hitachi, a seagate, a western digital, etc. it's what's on the inside that counts. just get a wd or seagate and put it in an enclosure yourself and save a bunch of cash

On topic question! If i bought an external HD could i partition it so that some runs under os x and some runs under xp in bootcamp, or no?

I just bought a TB Western Digital drive for about $216. There is another one that goes for $100 more. I think the more expensive drive has one TB drive whilst the other has two 500gb drives.
Seagate has the 5 year warranty, if you can get a claim. But I don't think you can go wrong with a WE. Buying an internal with a good, compatible external case, will cost you about the same and may not be as reliable even though I haven't had a problem.
Good luck.

+1 on the build your own external drive.
here's a good comparison on 7 terabyte internal drives. the samsung spinpoint F looks to be a nice pick.
