Hi. I need some advice... i am considering San Fran as a possible new home in a year or so..ish... but i've never really experienced it.
i currently live in NYC and adore it, but the west coast is calling me back....(lived in LA and SD)
my friend said SF is a mix of San Diego and NYC... is this true? I'm a designer and artist, so i felt NYC was the right place, is SF a good next move??
thanks for your input. ~mari

who the fuck is NOT moving to SF? lol
i would look pretty serious into cost of living and dwelling rates, if you have not before, or if you coming from an area that is not in top half of 1st percentile living in the world. it can be a doozy for many people....
try this to help maybe:
http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/c…- oops... just saw you said NYC. not so much shocker then.madirish
- thanks!marikeeler

Tons of threads here containing just such stories...
I have been here since early 06 and i cant imagine being anywhere else. Tons of work lots to do... great weather if you dont mind lower temperatures.
Do you have work line up out here?
- not yet.....but will look into it once i'm closer to a decision.marikeeler
- "great weather if you don't mind low temps" HA! great weather if you don't mind freezing wind in the middle of summer.arthur

i'm in SF my second time around now. couldn't stay away. was just in nyc for six years, but i'm a little more mellow in my old age, so SF is perfect for me. Not so much night life if your thing is staying out to all hours, but if the outdoors is your thing it's gorgeous here. obviously there are not as many opportunities in the fine arts scene, but if you're in your groove and have your own identity then you can find your niche here. housing entry prices are similar for studios, 1 beds, 2 beds, etc, but you get much more space for the money.

SF doesnt compare to NYC in any sense or form.
i was just there and i dont see how it can be compared in any way.
if you want to go back to the west coast then go for it.
- im an idiot about NYC b/c i have yet to visit... but did you really see no similarity?
curedjinx - I think boston is the more apt comparison.ninjasavant

;)
- Totally - can you hear the anger in his voice?brandon_phillip

one would be very foolish to compare the 2 cities; NY and SF. but then again, why would you?
- vanilla_cam0
not even close. sf is like boston or philly. just west coast versions.
- lolmadirish
- wow, that's really unfair.effort
- unfair to us? or unfair to boston and philly?vanilla_cam

Wasn't there a thread back in the day comparing SF and NY?
How's the job scene in SF these days? Still hot or starting to slow down?
- lvl_130
i think the only way it is comparable is in the fact that every other person wants to move to either sf or nyc.
well, that and the cost of living thing...

the best burritos ive ever had were in SF
- yes!acescence
- the only burrito i ever had was in SF.e-pill
