What is this thing supposed to do anyway? I mean, what's supposed to happen when we smash shit together? Explosions? Fusion? Eh?
- dskz0
Yeah man, I mean seriously what the F is the point of this $*!T?
- It's to prove the current thinking of physics.omgitsacamera
- ukit0
It recreates the conditions at the Big Bang, hence, we get to see what shit looked like back then.
- Also, smashing shit together is fucking coolukit

So if it doesn't work, is it supposed to tell us our current thinking of physics is wrong?

- Are they designing the experiment to either prove or disprove? That's all I want to know.ismith
- Yes they are.ribit
- Because they are scientists.ribit

I think we will discover something no matter what...assuming it works.
- dskz0
But if we recreate the conditions of the big bang...dont we big bang with it??
- ukit0
The problem is that, calibrating all those systems exactly right is extremely difficult.
- ukit0
Truth is, nobody knows for sure what will happen. Best thing to do is just pull the trigger and see.

^ This is true ukit.
Even the guys working on this have said they're not 100% sure what's going to happen.
Look at it this way. If they blow us all to hell then nobody is going to be around to ask questions. But if they don't blow us all to hell then they might answer a lot of questions... or even create some new ones.

There was this detritious' (I think) link to an article on how some particles would, having been created, prevent themselves from existence by changing circumstances in the past or something..
Has the link prevented itself from being pasted in in the past and disappeared?
- Sorry, dude - I can't, for the life of me, find that article.detritus
- Whoops. There it is.

Nothing is going to happen. Except for maybe some harmless radiation to the surrounding areas.
