eh, this market, in my opinion, is created bacause of shitty clients.
any agency or design shop worth their salt wants to partner with a client and take a serious interest in their needs and growth.the people posting jobs here are totally the people a decent shop would turn away at the drop of the hat..
a) because they could never afford them
b) dont understand the value of such a partnership
c) the firm doesnt see the client succeedingso in that respect, here lies the gutter industry. i dont think its worth getting upset about. the clients and "designers" deserve eachother.

Some of those logos are much better than the shit Wolff Olins do and for a millionth of the budget. I really don't blame clients for going to that site one bit.
The industry is worried about the quality of low cost work actually reaching a point where it will compete with "proper" rates and sites like this do offer very occasional glimpses of work that is by designers who by sheer weight of numbers are better than some agency designers or other freelancer.

There are a few issues here....
Yes, design being cheapened. It's being done for nothing. Any real designer knows you don't do something for nothing. No one else does, why should you? Since design is everywhere in life, and bad design is so prevalent, people don't really get good design. So they can live with bad design. This is changing though. Design is starting to be taken more seriously. It won't happen overnight, and real designers need to keep making their case. Complaining won't work, you just stick to your values and keep pushing what's important. The more people witness good design, the more they will not tolerate bad design...
As was mentioned earlier. Real clients wouldn't go for this BS.

i don't know, from a customers perspective, it's gotta be pretty nice to see this many options. the price is appalling, but you've got everything there but the kitchen sink... though, i might have even seen that while skimming the entries:

If you have a run-of-the-mill, dull company, service, product whatever, all you need and deserve is a run-of-the-mill, dull design service. Serves the client right for not knowing any better. Wolfboy is spot on!

There will always be someone trying to rip someone else off. Here they get to do it to both parties! Woop!
What many people have said already is spot on: If you cared about your business you wouldn't use a site like this.

I think I'm getting addicted to looking at this site! It's gonna be up there with Garfield minus Garfield in terms of me needing a daily fix!
This is a great one, the client as 164 entries for his logo, the brief being: "Logo will be for a company's Islamic clothing shopping web site. I don't have any specific requirements more than a brandable logo that says it is a corporate selling Islamic products/clothing"
He has several designers on the hook working and re-working their logo ideas and here is some of the feedback he has given:
Regarding design #66
"This is one of the best upto know. I have looked at your other contest and I can see that you can do even better, how about something more Symbolic, more corporate."Regarding design #90
"Colors are good, but what I meant is to add islamic designs at the cuff area, not to add an actual cuff. I mean instead of having a plain top end of the letter d and letter S, you try to make it more islamic look. Also how about adding some e-commerce related thing, like a price tag or a shopping bag somewhere."#190, how about a version with some islamic view near the mountains in the sun.
And my personal favourite feedback followed by the designers reply:
Regarding design #56

The creditplus logo was initially design for non prime or subprime motor loans direct to the consumer. We now wish to provide motor loans to prime and subprime consumers therefore needing a more generic look that will attrack both sets of consumers""Hi, we're in the business of ripping people off, so thought it would fit our brand story to have one of you desperate bastards design our new logo in a slave pit feeding frenzy on this handy black hole of exploitation.
We're totally pushing the boat out with a prize that might even get you about a 3rd of the way to paying your rent this month. A whole $500.
Suck it. Suck it now. Get on your knees"
