A number of people in my office wear Rolex watches and I just feel like they're trying way too hard. They look like every other watch (or maybe it's just their models).
Do they function better or more accurately? If you have one, what helped make your decision for a Rolex?- It's mechanical, it's not going to be more accurate than say a sportwatch. More likely less so, and less functions. Howeverrrr...Peter
- it IS mechanical. A living, breathing thing on your wrist. That looks like a mans watch, not a sport watch.Peter
- If status is important to you, then buy a Rolex.Josev
- Not a status thing on my end. Fell in love with the machinery (see prev page). Can understand if some see it that way thoPeter
- In a sense it's like arguing an overpriced apple over a cheap pc. They both have photoshop, right?Peter

This is a bit different, but this is my paternal grandfather's It's an Elgin from 1920. I had it restored and it runs pretty well. It loses about 3 minutes per day. I hardly use it obviously because of the sentimental value.
I wore it Saturday for the 1920s Jazz Lawn event on Governors Island.
I also found two print ads for it. It went for $125 back in 1920

- Love Panerais look & feel. Perhaps not the most advance mechanics, yet my next watch will be likely be the 111 or 415Peter
- The 111

http://forums.watchu…Peter - I still don't get why people pay so much for these, nothing special design wise or mechanical - to each their ownformed
- My guess it's like one of those boxy old Volvo cars... some people love em some just go meh.Peter
- I think they're classic looking watches that are well built.-kappa-
- but waaaaay over priced. You are paying for the popularity of the brand.formed
- Isn't that what's it all about? I mean, you can by a Rolex, IWC or any other brand with a house movement but...non
- if it doesn't look good, its worth nothing to the person who's looking to buy.non
- It's beautiful and doesn't have all the crap some men need to feel good about their watch.colab
