Roommate is moving out in May and I'm gonna need a new TV and a home theater system. Not looking to spend too much probably about $900 or less on a TV and $300 or less for a home theater system.
Any suggestions? Anyone see any good deals lately?

Is that better than this?

yes. the one you linked is not true full hd 1080. also i'm not a fan of plasma tv's.

you interested in any samsung or olevia tv's?
- Yeah...my roommate has a 32" Samsung LCD now. I like it, I just want something bigger, but within price range.CincodeMayo
- Samsung is typically top of the line, Olevia is at the bottom. I can't believe you mentioned them both together.drewcp

Yeah, I used to hear LCD's were the way to go, but I hear Plasma's are pretty close in quality now, no more burn in, etc. Also, I read that 1080 is never used on a TV unless you have a Blu-Ray DVD. All TV even HD is 720. True?
- Nope, tv for me is usually 1080i.ismith
- My 360 does 1080p on all my new games also.ismith
- Good point...I have a 360. You're right, it's 1080.CincodeMayo
- 360 is 1080i. only if you have a newer 360 hdmi and hd-dvd add-on can you view 1080p content from the xboxvwsung18t
- I get 1080p from a first generation 360 over vga.. Some TV's take 1080p over component... It really depends on your set. You don't need a 360 Elite to output 1080pRodimus79
- your set.. You don't need an Elite to output 1080p.Rodimus79

if you're going to get a tv smaller than 40", don't bother getting a 1080p TV. you won't notice the difference between a 720p and 1080p. 720 is much cheaper.
- Yeah, I think 720 is the way to go with the budget I'm looking for. Just looking for something decent for the next few years.CincodeMayo

You should sign up at Jellyfish.com It's a a cash back type of site that has reverse auctions. You can find me there under the same username. I could help you with most questions about the site. Tues. is the day that Electronics stuff gets sold. from 4 p.m. to 7 is the Audio Video Slot, Home Theaters etc. After that Televisions are sold from 7-9 all times Central. There is usually only 1 of any particular item but pretty much every item sold on Smack (the reverse auction part of Jellyfish) goes for less than Deal a Day type sites sell for.
- I should add that I bought my $900 37" Philips LCD from Smack Shopping for $628.drewcp
- Sweet thanks. I'll sign up and add ya.CincodeMayo

bensbargains has nothing on Smack Shopping by Jellyfish.
a recent find on bensbargains is a Refurbised Vizio (read: low end) 37" LCD for $600. http://bensbargains.net/deal/608…
A few 37 LCD's from Smack Shopping (these are all NEW):

and My TV http://www.jellyfish.com/smacktv…
I guess I was wrong when I said $628, I guess I paid less than that.

Home Theater Systems previously on Smack Shopping:
Onkyo HT-SR800 7.1 $270 http://www.jellyfish.com/smacktv…
Samsung HT-X40 $100.15 http://www.jellyfish.com/smacktv…
Bose CineMate $280.60 http://www.jellyfish.com/smacktv…These have all sold for less than $300, are New and the Prices include Tax and Shipping. There are plenty of others that have sold below $300. I did a search for Home Theater and the results... http://www.smackofshame.com/arch…

Another place to look for a TV is http://www.secondact.com/categor… They usually have a different TV up every 24 hrs. I'm not sure what time it changes.

Westy's are better sets than Sceptres. Sony XBR's and Sharp Aquos are among the best LCD sets, Panasonic makes some of the best plasmas. I'd suggest searching fatwallet.com for 1080p,etc.. to find a deal. And I'd recommend researching the products at avsforum.com, the users there are very helpful.
- You can probably find that Westy for $800 or less if you're patient on finding a deal.Rodimus79
