there are some speed bumps in making the transition though nothing serious. if you were freelance and only worked by yourself, i would say it is a no brainer... make the switch. however, if you have to trade files with a lot of other designers, you will constantly be dealing with these issues. remember it is not only how much the issues annoy you but also how much they will annoy coworkers.
i used macs exclusively for 6 years, then windows exclusively for 4 years and recently back to mac. for me, after all is said and done, i think that the mac is a superior experience. still, if i had a job in a windows only shop, i would use windows.

I made the switch just before vista came out, figured if I'm going to learn a new interface rather it was osx than vista.

I was actually considering switching back to Apple, but price and performance made me change my mind.

consider what you need to accomplish, and whether going all mac is necessary, or just a luxury that you want. if you can afford the luxury, DO IT. i would say you should anticipate less problems than with windows, but be prepared for a transitional stage regarding hot keys and settings and things like that

I ended up getting a DELL workstation. It arrived today.
It's been a few years since I've transfered everything over to a new work machine and after a day I'm glad I stuck with a PC.
I underestimated how many After Effects/ Premiere/ Flash plugins and smaller apps that I rely on that would have made switching a disaster.

you can arguably say that you will can build a cheaper computer.. or you can dish out for a bit more pricier comp that comes with os that is exclusive.. that also can run windows via boot camp.
i've been using a mac for 3 years and i had no regrets switching to it - although you need to pick up on the things (like how the mac is like the "opposite" of an windoze machine etc)
- there it is. "windoze" always pops up on these discussions.cramdesign
