If I were you I'd stay where you are. Lots of problems to gain from attempting a switch, and benefits are really quite negligeable.

You could buy a Mac, install Windows and be as you were. You could then flirt with the Mac side of things and see what it's like, test things out etc. If you like it you can totally switch, if not you can stick with Windows. The only real downside to this the the extra cost of buying a Mac, but some might say this is outweighed by the fact it looks more aesthetically pleasing.
- you can also buy a pc (with the right hardware) and install osx on it.Cultr

I just remembered....Samush is very right. Make sure the printer drivers actually work with Macs. And that the printers in general work with them. I've had lots of issues with that in the past. Had to buy a new printer altogether.

I switched to a MBP, but run windows but it isn't all plain sailing on that front either. Keymapping is problematic as is setting up dual monitors, limited number of USB ports is a pain too. Machine looks OK, but that doesn't really pay the bills. I do flirt with MAC OSX and use it for itunes but to be honest I'm a long way from a switch. My clients are all on PC and my software is all WINDOWS so I'd be really investing and still out on a limb with the MAC. I'd say if I could start again I would consider more carefully MAC but ultimately it's more about saving time and to do that I need to be using what my clients use so I can see the same things and hand over checked work. For this reason I still use IE6 too!

Servers are a consideration as well will there be an X Serve for your switch. If not naming conventions start to become a problem.

I think I'm going to switch to Mac. I played with a MacBook Pro yesterday and it was awesome.
Currently, I'm registering my iPhone.
Its inevitable. Long as I can code, I'm good.

While i am using a mac, have like 95% of the people who complain about not wanting to use Vista ever even tried it?
- Vista is horrible. You should take their word for avoiding it. It is AWFUL.mg33
- And I have used it. And it's unfair to average consumers to need a powerhouse PC to run it for basic tasks.mg33
- I haven't ever used it to be honest. Do you need such a monster PC? I see students all the time in some of my classes who have like cheap compaq laptops from bestbuy running it..pom
- students know nothing, that's why they're in school.mg33

I think it's interesting how many cheers/jeers about the Mac relate to using Windows on it. More so the jeers, complaints.
I thought people bought Apple computers to NOT use Windows, to avoid it, etc. etc. blah blah I know there are situations where you need Windows, but in the case of johhhhnyh above, buying a Mac sounds like a silly thing if you are only "flirting" with OSX.
Dude, shoulda bought a Dell.
When I was shopping for my MBP and reading reviews, it was pretty amazing how many user reviews and authoritative product reviews focused on the use of Windows on it right out of the gate, and, additionally, the Mac's overall shortcomings BECAUSE of problems using Windows.
They are not Windows machines. They are not Microsoft machines. Reviews should be thrown out if all they do is harp about how XP or Vista won't work properly. If you want those OS's, buy a PC.
- Dell's look shit though! I can see why you'd want to have both but maybe use windows a bit moreSASMAN

I started on Macs and used them exclusively at home for years. I actually like XP though and don't really see any benefit of paying the extra money for a Mac. When I think of the ridiculous prices I had to pay for Mac compatible items compared to the cost for PCs I still get annoyed.

I run Boot Camp sometimes, but i agree it would be stupid to base a review just on that. I kind of hating booting into XP when i have to, but i guess it is a useful thing for some which needs mentioning.

seed - Mac compatible items in what year? Just curious. Can't think of anything I've bought for my MBP that was not both PC and Mac compatible.
XP is nice, it's a great OS. Before I got a Mac a month ago I'd been using win2000 for years. I actually have a brand new XP install disk, unopened, sitting doing nothing. I'll probably put it on my PC soon just so I have something windows for testing and such.
- That was 2000-4. I was going to say it may have improved since then.seed

the other thing that annoyed me to no end was the focus of reviews on gaming for Macs. Not that you can't play games, but it was difficult to find real and recent data on performance that wasn't related to game performance or people talking about how well games played on them.

as someone else said fonts are the biggest issue when dealing with files made on competing platforms. I run both and that's pretty much the biggest issue I have.
A nice thing about the mac is that it'll happily run windows either with BootCamp or with Parallels or Fusion. And that's pretty damn cool

I finally started transferring fonts this past weekend once I installed CS3. I have an Adobe font disc that is PC version and was sad to see that all the non TTF fonts will not transfer.
Unless I'm missing something, I am unable to copy and install those fonts to the mac font directory. I thought I read that you can install them to the Adobe specific font folders. Anyone have any info?

How many mac / pc posts does there need to be on here? Just use whatever you want to use and fuck everyone else.

The major problem I see with macs, is that a certain type of arrogance comes with owning one.

the shit i hate about pcs is that we are forced to use them in the business world.
You have to dial all the visual settings down to have any productivity or it will rape your resources.
Its not *nix.

Mac's do look nice. Better than most PC options out there - which as a designer isn't a dumb ass reason to choose one is it? Agreed, that probably should run OSX on it as it's made for that. But then again, it runs windows so why not use it for that?
- I'd say most people that use Macs use it for the operating system. The sexy hardware is added bonus.yaphi

You will probably become a real designer, imagine that!
